Thread: Sony A300 vs Nikon D60

Default Sony A300 vs Nikon D60

Hi all. I'm a very new bird and I have intentions of getting a DSLR. I need some valuable advise on which is better. Sony A300 or Nikon D60.

Would also like to know if both are compatible with 3rd party lens?

I've heard accessories for Sony will be more expensive as compared to Nikon. Is it true?

It will be good if you can let me know the pros and cons of both camera if possible.

Get a nikon brother. I know i kinda bias here coz i myself using a nikon. used a D60 before upgrading to D200 and now looking to D700. haha. simply said, nikon has a very strong foundation on photography and you can trust them in producing good images when you snap a photo.

its not saying that sony aint good. but this is just my own honest opinion. Sony is still new in the market. get what i mean?

both brands have compatible 3rd party lens and for the accessories......more or less ard the same price. EXPENSIVE. haha.

survery more. go to the IT show to try out the cameras. and best advice, follow your friends. If your friends have a nikon camera, get a nikon camera. then can borrow lens. HAHAHAH

Sony lenses and camera body are from Minolta lah, not really that new.

Nikon uses Sony's sensor for some of its camera body.

Bro... All budget DSLR cameras (from all makers) look and feel like cheap plastic. But they're all quite robust.

    1. There are 3rd party lenses made for both, yup.

    2. Accessories are actually the same... sometimes cheaper, sometimes more ex.

    3. Pros and cons... Where to start? Have you tried reading reviews and compared the features? The A300 has fast AF liveview, a tilting LCD screen, built-in antishake, 9-point AF, etc. The Nikon has a better viewfinder, only 3-point AF, no tilting LCD, no built-in anti-shake and no built-in AF motor.

A slightly fairer comparison is Sony A200 vs D60. The A300 is in a different class to the D60.

Nat Geo photographers uses various kinds of camera and lenses. Just because they promote Sony Alpha cams, doesn't mean all pictures in the mag are shot with it.

I'm an avid reader of Nat Geo and I read up on some of their photographers profile as well.

The most important thing in photography is not your camera, it's the person holding it.

As one that had used D40 (D60 little bro) and gave it up for A200 (A300 little bro), I can say that build quality is the only single thing I miss from D40. A200 is better than D40 in all other aspects.

    My 2 cents anyway.

Ask yourself deep in your heart ...

Is it Sony or nothing ?
Is it Nikon or nothing ?

If you have the answer, then you know what you want.

As I have mentioned many time sthat given today's advanced technology, ALL entry level cameras are able to produce decent pictures if used within their limitations.

I have to agree with what bro Rashkae mentioned. Do compare the features and see for yourself which is a better cam for you.

o i see.. since nikon does not have in built AF motor, I will have to purchase lens w/ AF motor in future?
And what do you mean by 3 pt AF & 9 pt AF. ? whats the diff?

It's how many points in the viewfinder can be used to focus with.

If you check the reviews of both cameras, you'll find and example. Here's from DPreview:

It looks more like A700 than A300 leh (if A350, A300 and A200 has the same AF point), my A350 does not look like this.

Will go back home later to check and confirm again.

This is A300's viewfinder, A700 does not look like this.
