Well, they should honour the warranty as, they are also being paid for warranty service by Pentax, I don know why is it not possible , they have nothing to loss or maybe they to make another time of the service charge

I also work in principal company, this is how the warranty work when the service is out source

From the reply, it seems to me the experienced pentax serviceman we are all familiar with is not going over as originally indicated by one of the retailers....

i think the only thing we can do right now is wait for emjay to reply us.
    I'm praying its soon honestly.
I really dont want to jump ship right now especially in this economical climate and I hardly think I would do so. So I really hope that this issue can be solved quickly.
But as I said, I think the only thing we can do now is wait for emjay's response.

nobody's bashing. we're only giving our feedback and suggestions to emjay. it's not in our best interests to bash the new distri even before they take over. just hoping to start off on the right foot.

wrong. warranty is supposed to cover things like manufacturing defects (e.g. SDM motor sudden catastrophic failure). user-related damage is not covered by any warranty in the first place.

i suppose you don't have an insurance policy.. if no accident no illness, no need insurance. just take care of yourself can already.

    Hi Ronald,

Welcome to CS and for taking the time to respond the thread.

Not honoring warranty to local/original & authorized/international sets is suicidal
You're ignoring all the previous & current loyal customers & supporters.
Furthermore, Pentax is quite a small market here. Who'll still buy Pentax in shop now?

Maybe MJ need to resolve this within Pentax.
You may not have all the answers but please come back and let us know.

PS. An example like Tamron, even though Tithes went chapt 11, Jescop still honor all previous warranties.
They may not be well equipped and some sets even had to ship back to Japan at Tamron's cost. That's customer service

Like i said, Pentax will bare all costs of manufacturing defect within warranty Period, the cost is not by EMJAY

Welcome, Ronald & Emjay! You'll find a lively, opinionated but friendly (and mostly fair-minded) Pentax community here, who'll probably be your core customers in time. We're a small group, but are growing in numbers and devotion. Just check out the threads here

    A few issues and feedback:
    * Availability & pricing of Pentax equipment: Would be great if Emjay improves on the situation (which was pretty sad under the previous distro). Fairer prices for example; the wide price gap in the USA and local retail price. It compels some, many of us to import from the USA instead.

Also, the K-m is still not available here after so long. It'll make a great, cheap beginner DSLR for the entry level market and is key to pulling in more people to Pentax.

    * Warranty: I have no Pentax stuff under warranty, but am concerned by the issue too. I have no legal background or detailed knowledge of such things, but it just doesn't seem fair. Changes in distro should not affect warranty.

First impressions count; treating customers fairly count (yes, those who bought from previous distro are still customers; and they will stay customers if they're treated right). Whatever it takes, Emjay should fight for their rights, if the problem is in the terms with Pentax HQ.

Else it's as good as driving them away to another brand. Considering the relatively smaller no. of Pentax users here, this will be a disaster. Plus the bad word-of-mouth too when this spreads.

    * Lastly, let's try to make it a win-win situation -- normally hate clichés, but this is apt! -- for everyone here. Such that Emjay benefits from increased no. of customers and sales and profits; we benefit from fairer prices, better availability of Pentax products, and good after-sales service/warranty service. To do this, we must, in part, make Pentax a strong niche player in the local DSLR market.

Let's find ways to work together to raise awareness of the brand, and its strengths. I'm sure we can, and if we see the company's putting in effort and heart into this, many of us here will support Emjay all the way.

    Here's looking forward

    Cheers!

Hey Ronald, welcome to clubsnap. It's good to see our new local agent checking us out on the forum too

As to the warranty thing, let's all work together and figure out the best way for Emjay, and all us Pentaxians here.

Agreed. There seems to be a lot of people interested in a cheap entry level DSLR, and the K-m fits their needs VERY well, more than matching the D60 or 1000D and at a far lowest cost (should be about $799 with kit lens). Need to do more marketing as well, advertising and getting the products out to the retailers.

    Hi jsohhl,

Did u read the thread correctly? MJ is not going to honour any warranty for sets (even non-grey) not brought in by them & so far no one claim to warrant those sets even through authorized retailers (not brought in by MJ). Pentax?? Are you saying we can ship direct to Pentax? What do you mean?

think what he means is that if there's a defect in the product, the manufacturer, PENTAX, is the one tt ultimately will bear the cost of repairing/replacing it and not the distributor/service centre. so we're waiting for MJ's reason why the official pentax warranty is not being honoured.

Yes.. I'm well aware of it.
Just hope Pentax don't pass this stupid responsibility onto customer.
    Thanks darrrrrrrrrr for clarification!

Quoted from the back of a Domestic Warranty Certificate issued by Shriro.

    "WARRANTY POLICY

All PENTAX cameras purchased through authorized bona fide photographic distribution channels are guaranteed against defects of material or workmanship for a period of twelve months from date of purchase. Service will be rendered, and defective parts will be replaced without cost to you within that period, provided the equipment does not show evidence of impact, sand or liquid damange, crack of LCD, mishandling, tampering, battery or chemical corrosion, operation contrary to operating instructions, or modification by an unauthorized repair shop. The manufacturer or its authorized representatives shall not be liable for any repair or alterations except those made with its written consent and shall not be liable for damages from delay or loss of use or from other indirect or consequential damages of any kind, whether caused by defective material or workmanship or otherwise; and it is expressly agreed that the liability of the manufacturer or its representatives under all guarantees or warranties, whether expressed or implied, is strictly limited to the replacement of parts as hereinbefore provided. No refunds will be made on repairs by non-authorized PENTAX service facilities.

Procedure during the 12-month Warranty Period
Any PENTAX which proves defective during the 12-month warranty period should be returned to the dealer from whom you purchased the equipment or to the manufacturer. If there is no representative of the manufacturer from your country, send the equipment to the manufacturer, with postage prepaid. In this case, it will take a considerable length of time before the equipment an be returned to you owing to the complicated customs procedures required. If the equipment is covered by warranty, repairs will be made and parts replaced free of charge, and the equipment will be returned to you upon completion of servicing. If the equipment is not covered by warranty, regular charges of the manufacturer or of its representatives will apply. Shipping charges are to be borned by the owner. If your PENTAX was purchased outside of the country where you wish to have it serviced during the warranty period, regular handling and servicing fees may be charged by the manufacturer's representatives in that country. Notwithstanding this, your PENTAX returned to the manufacturer will be serviced free of charge according to this procedure and warranty policy. In any case, however, shipping charges and customs clearance fees to be borne by the sender. To prove the date of your purchase when required, please keep the receipt or bills covering the purchase of your equipment for at least a year. Before sending your equipment for servicing, please make sure that you are sending it to the manufacturer's authorized representatives or their approved repair shops, unless you are sending it directly to the manufacturer. Always obtain a quotation for the service charge, and only after you accept the quoted service charge, instruct the service station to proceed with the servicing."

Having sent a lens to Japan for repair of the lens hood, service from Pentax Japan is prompt and good.

My take is the domestic warranty that was issued by Shriro for items sold in Singapore while it was the distributor may not be transferable, though this needs to be clarified by Emjay. We have to bear in mind we were dealing with an intermediary who accords warranty service, not Pentax itself - Shriro issued the warranty. Once Shriro no longer represents Pentax, it may not have the ability nor obligation to service or repair due to lack of equipment and parts or manpower. Emjay is starting from a clean slate and while it may accede to extend service for gear that was warrantied by Shriro, there is no automatic obligation to do so for free.

That's why I have no qualms to buy with no warranty or grey sets. Save money upfront and no warranty hassle. Frankly most of the problems if any happened after the period of warranty and I figure the savings from buying it cheaper upfront can cover the cost of repair should it ever conk out within the 1 year warranty period.

It a whole company at USA...whereas the pentax presence here is only thru the distributor....there no PENTAX SINGAPORE.
I think Ronald and co might be working out something among themselves...personally felt they will do something abt it after all the comments/feedbacks here.
