Sigma lens serial number

Just bought my first Sigma lens.

While trying to register the warranty, I discovered that the serial number on bottom is one digit less than the serial number on the warranty card. The lens body's number has 7 digits but the card has 8 digits. the numbers are identical except for the last digit on the warranty card. Is this usually the case with Sigma lens?

Hey, i also discover exactly what you mentioned! Mine is a 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO DG Macro. S/No. on lens is also 1 digit less than the warranty card...

Anyway, I've been hearing different things on the Sigma warranty. MSColor told me its 2yrs and can register online at Sigma's website but MaxPhoto say 1yr and need to send warranty card... any idea which is which?

I have already registered online. It is very different from Canon Singapore's system. I thought if I keyed in the serial number (either one), the system would tell me if it is not valid. But either I got right, by keying in the number on the warranty card or it is just not validated against their internal list. All I received from the distributor is an acknowledgement. In contrast, for canon, after keying in the serial number the model will appear on the page. So I know that it has been validated. Regarding additional number, I suspect that it is a mount number, like mine is a "2". So if your lens is a canon, the additional number should be a "2" too.

Regarding the warranty, I had a more liberal interpretation from my salesman: 1yr international, additional 1yr from sg distributor and additional 6mths for online registration. I accepted this because Tamron has quite a long warranty, if I remember correctly.

Better not buy Sigma Buy your original manufacturer lenses.

I did the same when i sold off my 70-300 but AP told me it's ok as long as have the original receipt.
