Hello.
I've been there 1 yr plus ago. My itenary as below. Buy tickets at Larkin to Kuala Terrenganu (nite departure, reached K.Terrenganu ard 5 or 6am) Went to rest house to wash up. Land transfer from K.Terrenganu to Kuala Besut (provided by tour agent at additional cost) Sea transfer from K.Besut to P.Perhentian(included in the package) Stay 3D2N at Coral View Resort(very nice, food voucher provided for all meals. for me it's more than enuf and very delicious somemore) I booked my package at pinganchorage.com.my total is less than RM500. You can check thier web for more details. (=

I just went last Oct.
Booked with Tuna Bay and their place was really clean and fantastic. (plus they have alcohol) I arranged my own transport there though, with bus directly to Besut from Singapore. Kinda long and tiring bus ride. I would really prefer to take coach to KL and take a 45 min flight instead Any transport from the state of Terrenganu is best settled with the agent. Saves a lot of time and they are quite flexible. Google for the tuna bay website and they should have some information. |

Gee, I can't quite remember the exact figure
I suppose it was around 250 SGD each for 2 person 4D/3N with all the food and transport. Of course I did save a lot by taking bus, but I rather take the plane next time. Moreover, it was really off peak as the monsoon season is just around the corner. I didn't went diving so it was pretty cheap. Just chill out and enjoy the pristine beach every day. |

yah i don't think you can get any cheaper than that as there are a lot of factors that reduced the price.
There is only one bus service from SG direct to Jerteh. The kiosk is at Singapore-Malaysia Coach Terminal at Kallang Bahru. I think its Transnational. Depending on your luck. They can promised business class but don't expect them to deliver. Other than the long and arduous 11 hrs of bus ride, the trip was very memorable. Better go now before the water gets murky from too much tourism. |

I always did my trips DIY. First get the booking at the resort (I like Flora Bay), then get the bus tickets at Singapore-Malaysia Coach Terminal at Kallang Bahru. Flight is off if you want to go for diving. Drop-off at Jerteh is quite common, the bus drivers know it already. Catch a taxi or any guy with car (there are always some guys waiting around6..7am) to get to Besut. It's RM 15 max. for 15min drive. For me the night bus is really the best way. Don't want to waste a day only for transport.

sometimes i feel its not worth the hassle to DIY just to save $50 or $60. i just pay and let some poor bugger take care of everything. the same poor bugger gets it when the bus doesn't arrive, or when i really need to pee very badly on the bus ride. heh heh

When you reached the jetty, gotta recommend you to try the fried noodles from this chinese restuarant facing the bus kiosk.
That morning I had it, it was out of this world. |

if you're hoping to go diving there during the april and may long weekends, just call the diveshops and ask for the price...it might even be cheaper than DIY sometimes. and hassle-free! maybe $20-50 more? that's a small price to pay for peace of mind and someone to scream at if something goes wrong. hahaha

I think it depends what your friends want to do beside snorkeling. Perhentian is really laid back. Either you roast in the sun or you are in the water. Nothing much left beside this (some resorts have Internet cafe or small libraries, there is a jungle treck at Perhentian Besar going round the island). Redang seems to be better for those who expect also some night life
Perhentian is simply quiet (which I personally prefer). |

I went there last year Mar '08 and stay in Awana Resort. This is how I get there:
Took a bus to KL and stay 1 night in a cheap hotel. My wife and 2 children (14yrs n 4yrs) was with me. I took a plane, Fireflyz, Subang > Kuantan. Land transfer to Kuala Bersut. Boat to the island. Have to a bus there before... is really back breaking for me... maybe is my age, coming to 45yrs liao. Anyway, I'm going to Lang Tengah this Jun 09. |
