Red face Which Wide Angle Lens?

    Hello everyone!

I'm pretty new to camera stuffs, so I need some help with buying the suitable wide angle lens, so I won't waste money. >'<

I'm hoping to get a lens thats:

    1. walk-about for streets and sceneries
    2. not too fishy, i.e. i'm not looking for 10mms.
    3. value for money (most definitely )

I'm hoping to get it soon, so do advise me!

Any advice and recommendations are welcomed.

not too cheap, but very good lens.
i dun quite like the distortion of the 12-24.
anyway, if you a re considering FX in fututre, do take note that the 12-24 is a DX lens while the 17-35 is a FX lens
Hope to learn from everyone here....

Just because it's a 10mm lens does not mean it will be a fisheye lens. There are fisheyes with focal lengths of 15mm, for instance. Fisheye lenses are designed to intentionally be non-rectilinear (i.e intentionally distorted), while UWA lenses are designed to be rectilinear.

These were shot at 10mm on a Canon 30D:

hmmm.. so, does that mean FX lens can be fixed onto DX lens? well, personally I'm looking for lens that doesn't have much distortion. so, it'll be a good walk about, that is, something close to the human eye.

so therefore UWA ≠ Fisheye, right? any nikon recommendation then?

    once again guys, thanks alot!

Tamron 17-50f2.8? A pretty good walk around lens in my opinion.

Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 is a good wide angle lens.

    tokina 11-16 f2.8 - abt 800+ (DX) - fit into fx left 15mm-16mm
    tokina 12-24 f4 abt 500 - (DX) resale market fix into fx - 16-24mm
    nikon 12-24 f2.8 - 1200? (FX)
    sigma 10-20mm f/4 - abt 500 too (resale)

go google ultra-wide angle lens on kenrockwell.com
he gives excellent review and did a comparsion between nikon/tokina/tamorn/sigma.

i personally went for tokina 12-24 f/4 for its price and IQ and range. given the fact that i use uwa mostly for landscapes - i dun need f2.8. f11 is most of the time that im shooting with =)

I think Tamron just launch a AF10-24mm F/3.5-4.5 Di II, should already available in Nikon mount. You may want to check out in shops

If you already have a kit lens for D90 (should be 18-105 iirc), probably you can consider tokina 11-16 f2.8. If that is too ex for you, only left the choice of tokina 12-24 or sigma. But if I'm correct for the new item, these 2 also above 600.

    go with tokina 12-24 F4...

still the best bargain for UWA....$500-550 for 2 hand...

If you don't need very wide angles, you can consider the 16-85 VR. Great for walkabout on the streets, and it has VR. The focal length range is very useful. Also, this lens is very sharp, great for landscapes.

It is a DX lens. Brand new price now should be below $1,000, or can get 2nd hand for cheaper.
