Ok. I'm convinced! These test pics were taken with Nikon 18-55mm lens ($180). RAW converted to JPG (medium compression), cropped, with only minor curve adjustments.

HDR Image: 5x1EV using S5 Pro + Nikon 18-55mm. This was shot at East Coast yesterday morning.

Hi Tachyon, welcome to the world of S5 Pro. I am convinced as well, but saddened that there will be no S6 Pro.

ummm... actually the shots you've shown could also have been done using a Canon cam, or any other brand for the matter. the real advantage of the S5pro is its superb dynamic range capability plus its rendition of natural colours (esp skin tones), that's why wedding/studio/portrait photogs lurve it. (try shooting a white gowned bride and a black tux'ed groom together...) using a HDR photo actually does an injustice to the wonderful camera. ![]() happy shooting with your new cam! |

Actually, I bought the S5 Pro just to do HDRI. I struggled with my Canon 40D (which can only autobracket 3 frames max, and also 'valleys' in between the combined historgram due to inadequate DR) making the pictures appear artificial. Whereas, with S5 Pro, I have more freedom to choose the number of bracketed frames, and after I have combined the images, I get a much smoother histogram with less artifacts.
For example, the following picture taken this morning may appear to be over-processed, but it was stacked 'as is' without any need for adjustment of the parameters. I would have difficulty doing that with my Canon 40D (maybe 1Ds Mk III, but we are not comparing apples and oranges then). Wanted to catch the sunrise this morning to run some more test but as you can see, I ended up capturing clouds instead... *Sigh*

I find that the cam does very well when your shooting objects, people... Comes out very nice. But comes to scenery, it tends to be kinda soft...

Where got soft?
![]() The S5 Pro is in fact very film-like in terms of sharpness. For those of you who come from shooting film, you will know what I meant. |

Ironically, I was trying to produce soft images with my Canon 40D. I always find the images too harsh for my liking. But that's just me...
Anyway, I do not find the S5Pro images soft at all. If it is soft from my above images, it's because of my poor shooting skills and not the fault of the camera... |

I use Canon DLSR at work and I do find the Digic's decoding algorithm too aggressive. Everything looks harsh, not sharp.
