    btw, i using gimp
I think GIMP is quite a good freeware for photo editing. Used it at work to edit company events pics and is pretty much simple to figure out.

But anyways, I use Photoshop CS3 at home.

hmm. for me i use adobe photoshop. i find it quite versatile. i used it not just editing photos, but also graphic design, gfx and other loads of stuff. adobe very very manual. well. after all u are paying like a few hundred bucks for this. so its very worthwhile.

The first software that I recommend to all my friends, regardless of their interest in photography would be Adobe Lightroom, because it is easy to learn, user-friendly interface and has a good archiving and batch processing workflow plus non destructive photo editing capabilities.

But I don't think most softwares can fully replace Adobe photoshop or discount the fact that it is still one of the best, if not the best for higher level image manipulation and correction.

My vote goes to lightroom and photoshop, for their respective roles.

Capture NX2 for basic conversion + CS3. Photoshop provides alot of functions to play around with... I tried LR2 but din reli like it... a fellow forummer bro introduced photoscape to me and I thnk it's quite good for minor editing

Love it! But I do have some problems with conversion from RAW or Paint Shop files to JPEG. I can't set the compression too high or noise would appear. So now I have larger JPEG Files.
I am a long-time Paint Shop Pro User, since version 4(!). However, I have to say that version X3 is an immense disappointment. Resource hungry, takes significantly longer to load and is p-a-i-n-f-u-l-l-y slow to use. The user interface is a downright mess till the point that it's really unuseable. I wonder if the engineers at Corel even bothered to try it out for themselves in the first place. I've installed the Service Pack 1, and it's still no good. I've read good reviews about it, but now I'm convinced that the reviewers are definitely paid off to write good things about it.

I've reinstalled version X2 and immediately I'm much happier now.

This really is the case of "newer isn't always better".

(FYI, I find the best and most accurate/honest reviews for this product can be found at Amazon.com)

I also use ACDSee Pro 3 to manage my files. Now that's a good piece of software!

Primarily Photoshop CS for "rough work" and for web sometimes.

Seriously color work first done in Silkypix, export as TIFF, and tweaked in Photoshop. Primarily to get the best colors from RAW and then fine tuning/editing in Photoshop. Hope this helps.

Just curious, but do you guys so-called "mass edit" every single photos that is not going to the recycle bin(deleted)? Or do you only edit those that is potentially nice?

As in doing basic editing i.e photoshop's Auto tone, contrast and color for each photo. Then further editing for those that turn out to be very nice or have the potential to be. i.e clone tool, filters and so on

Can also be batch processing though i dont do that

Capture NX2 for the simple editing, CS4 for more complex

I use Photoshop for major editing stuff, but the one software I always rely heavily on for all my photo editing, is ACDSee. It's powerful and yet easier to use than most others.
