Default Want to learn Videography

I am a serious amateur photographer wanting to learn videography. You can view my works at www.real-eye.blogspot.com

Could anyone suggest a course where I can learn Videography?

Note that if it is parttime course (2 hours per day) or weekend classes it would be great. If an apprentice type of course is suggested, that would be of great help as I could learn faster that way. I learnt photography by being a light assistant with a photographer.

You can contact Derek Yeo from Treasure Productions, he runs training courses.

There are many aspects of videography. In increasing levels, here's the different stages I think you can explore....

How to handle video cameras for shooting? (i.e. learn the hardware and technical stuff)
How to use editing software? (i.e. learn how to use FCP, premiere, vegas, etc)
Cinematography? (i.e. how to shoot for good story-telling)
How to edit to tell a story effectively (i.e. tempo, color-grading, etc)

If you are not into full-time school, and just wanna enjoy producing videos, I'll suggest you learn from Derek, and get at least a 2nd hand prosumer cam with manual focus, manual aperture, shutter speed and gain control. Then start shooting for your friends' personal events for free. Edit your footage into a story the way you envision it, and you'll learn very fast.
Then watch lotsa movies and the CSI series and ask yourself questions like (how and why did the camera move this way? what kind of feel does it give the viewer? Why is the color tone bluish? why is it slightly warm? etc).

But beware of the equipment costs.... easily 3-5 times that of photography.
And don't shoot video purely from your photography perspective. You'll end up ignoring audio and produce "photomontages" where each shot is very artistically framed, but the entire clip fails to tell any story.

As suggested, I have taken up the course offered by Derek. I must say quiet a good one and gave me a very good perspective. For a while now, I have been watching movies with the view of studing the camera and lighting setups.. I have been able to get to visualize the camera and lighting setups.

I would like to move on to do professional level TVC and Vids. To familiarize myself with camrea and angles, I hired a HD camcorder for day and went fiming by myself. Learnt a lot from this experience.

I think I should work partime/weekends with professionals to learn the art and science of Video/Cinematography better. Can anyone suggest/is willing to take me on please?

Being an MBA graduate and having worked for more than a decade in various companies across different cultures in the world, I am sure that I can do Ad Copies and branding quiet well. I can plan marketing campaigns if need be.

My current Photography portfolio of work can be seen on my blog www.real-eye.blogspot.com
