Default Sony z-5

Hi,

If I get a Sony Z-5 3-CCD HD videocamera from the states, is there any issue of NTSC and PAL? Or is Digital now all one system? And no converting problems? Is it cheaper here in Singapore or States?

Thanks!

Sony upgrade the PAL Version to both system at a cost in Singapore. You should check if the NTSC can be Upgrade locally.

NTSC = 29.97 frames or approx 30 frames per sec, resolution size oso different from PAL.

PAL = 25 fps , we use PAL in this region. I think better to shoot and edit in PAL, safer ah.

If the Z5 is NTSC/PAL switchable, can get from US ah.

the Z5 come with cmos not ccd. Unless you get the Z1

z5 pal is around $6,300. Z5 pal/ntsc switchable is around $6,800

The resolution for HDV is the same (1440x1080) whether it is PAL or NTSC. But I agree it is better to shoot 25fps to avoid flickering lights, and also because if you want to make an SD DVD, PAL will give more resolution than NTSC. (If you shoot HDV at 30fps and then convert to SD PAL 25fps for DVD, you will get motion artifacts, whereas if you shoot HDV at 25fps you can get a very nice conversion to SD PAL 25fps.)

if you shoot in SD, NTSC and PAL may post a problem in transcoding stage since:
Frame Rate -> PAL<NTSC (25:30)
Resolution -> PAL>NTSC (Horizontal Resolution is 576,480)

if you shoot in HD, NTSC is better, 30fps is always better than 25fps since the resolutions are the same. Only thing you need to take care of is the scan mode.
