Default Bogus seller/buyer in B&S

I've posted in B&S to buy and sell several equipment. And I always receive this call from an Unknown Number - saying he wants to buy/sell at an unbelievable good price, resulting the cancellation of previous offers.

Apparently, he has called many but not leave his contact number, as can be seen in some posts in the B&S forum, i.e. "The person who has called me earlier, please SMS or message me back."

The intention of this post is to warn CS-ers of such erratic people. I do not know the intent of that person, probably just doing out of boredom. That person is a male. Please proceeed with caution when receiving calls from Unknown Number.

i encountered such an incident when I had wanted to sell my 12-24..

this guy who claimed that he was jus "16 yrs old" called me (at 6am plus) within 2 hrs of my posting from a private number..

he talked quite a lot to me, and even shared his view on a FF lens on my D90.. he even told me that he has a spare 14-24 (which i was looking for) and he had not even used it once.. he can even added that he got it from a friend's parent who own AP, and he had his own 14-24 already..

unbelievable.. but when i asked for his number, he replied that sometimes he sms people but cannot send out his sms.. *i smell something fishy* from here onwards..

when we hung up the phone after speaking for about 15 mins.. and waited for his sms which never came.. i really wonder what he was up to..

i may have wasted my time with him on the phone.. and that is all..

oh ya.. i remember he spoke in a fast and unclear manner..

any other members here have had similar experiences?

Yes, he also told me he wanted photographers for his sister's wedding. And MUST DO FILM! HAHA!

Yeah, talked about 15 mins also. Guess he's very bored in his life.

I get a lot of SMSes but never calls, requesting to deal immediately at quite an unbelievable price. I generally politely reply that I intend to adhere to my terms (my auction deadline tends to be quite a bit more) and offer to place him as a bidder. The line becomes dead after that, and I move on... haha.

So far, I encountered 3 incidents. All 3 from the same person, I can recognize the voice.

Whoever you are, please get a life.

I actually found him to be quite an interesting fella infact, lol!

Never expected any jobs from him (furthermore his jobs offers are un-imaginably good for CS market rates).

He really did seem to love his Nikon F5 (hint, hint on name). Was bragging about how fast its focus motor is and why he still loves film so much.

I got a call yesterday night at from this guy. I had posted an advert desiring to own a leica m6.

He called, saying he saw my ad, and that he owned 7 Leica M6(s) with various variations of it. I was looking for a normal m6 classic has i cant afford anything beyond that. so after discussion about which of his 7 are closer to my budget, which was a normal chrome classic m6 and a leica M6A. he had said that he had personally got the M6A from from the leica factory. I got a quote of 1.5-1.6 for the classic chrome and 1.7 for the M6J. Both in perfect condition, box, certificate and everything.

I asked if he had any non-leica M mount lens since i cant afford leica glasses yet, he said he used only pure leica system , naming various summilux, noctilux and others. So after that i was about to agree on the deal with just the classic chrome.

I got a incoming call suddenly so i told him to call me back in 5 mins. now, exactly 24 hours and 40 mins later, he never did. He used an anonymous number. If he was genuine, i really really hope he would come back cause i am dying to own my first leica. if not, i really wasted 24 hours of anxiousness and non-stop looking at my phone.

I asked about his CS name during the call. I think he said Nikonf3 . Did a search, cant find.

Type error. 1.7k for the M6A i meant.

Also, i did a check and the M6A had a start auction bid of 10,000 euros.

whether or not this person is real, or whether or not this person comes from what kinda family or know what kinda people

all i know for one thing. His upbringing is very much questionable. From what I read most of the time in magazines or journals, it's something to do with pychological problems. Bad parental guidance, disturbed by friends in school; or no friends to begin with. Went through a really rough patch or something.

Sometimes its really not their fault. Quite poorthing right?

Just leave him be. Im sure the moderators will take the appropriate actions to stop future incidents like this happening. Im sure it doesn't help his attitude having a whole thread talking about him.

Haha. Saw most of his post here in CS. Kinda too good to be true and SO MANY 'HIGH PROFILE' projects. Yeah btw, those who were ever ''employed'' by him or those who had their services ''engaged'' by him care to comment? Haha.

Nonetheless, I find that he sounds as if he is very very knowledgeable in Cameras and lenses and he even wants to shoot a company event using his Leica. I wonder if he also owns a Mamiya

Why not have them sit in rows unsmilingly and put some cloth over your head while ducking under to shoot on a graflex? Don't forget the flash bulbs.

Ya ya... got this a couple of times... first he tell me he stay in town and can deal at Paragon, and he will sms me his mobile number/address. The sms never came. Then the second time... he told me he stay in East Coast. This time round he gave me his name and number during the conversation. Guess what, when I tried to call back, it's a wrong number! Best part is he even called the 3rd time after I post my ad again, and apologise for messing up the earlier appointment and tried to fix it up again. The outcome is obvious.... he disappeared one more time... sign... strange folk we have here indeed...

Yup, got the same prankster. Left his name as Matthew. Talked abt using film for some wedding assignment etc.. Left me holding on to a camera I placed on B&S while I turned away other genuine offers. In the end he never called back, the other genuine buyer couldn't wait and bought another camera, and I lost a sale.
