Default Canon price went up ~20% yesterday.. Scary

I got an E-quote yestreday from MS Color and when I get there they told me that they can't honor the equote since canon just announce that they are increasing prices. I'm too dissapointed since I have to move my ass to AMK just for the purchase and I got home empty handed.

If you really need it, save up the remaining amount and go for it. Most of the lenses increased in price, but I know the lens I was thinking of getting actually had its price decreased

the price increase is world-wide. after factoring in airfares and GST on the way back to SG, probably work out to be the same, even if the exchange rates are better.

If ya don't mind 2nd hand ones, you could always pop by TCW or BenPhoto to look at those units. Some are in pristine condition.

There are also a couple units being put on sale in B&S.

In midst of this current situation, you can always save some money by opting for 2nd hand ones. Just my 2 cents worth of thought.

me too. I got a quote from the same shop for 70-200mmL 2.8 non-IS for $1685 incl GST. The new price is $1950-00. I am now seriously considering the Sigma one. Sigh.....

It appears that the flash price is still pretty much stable, at least for yesterday.

Perhaps time to seriously consider import or 'grey' purchases!

The thing is the new price is for the new stock that they order in.
Current in-stock items they should be selling for the old price, as they bought them for the old price.
hmm

It is puzzling that Japan is in their worst recession ever because nobody's buying their goods and yet they are raising their price. I know their currency is getting stronger but then......

How would we know exactly which pieces are the old stock prices, and which are the new ones?

You got it right 'nobody's buying their goods'.

There is no 'economy of scales'.

Actually, if more people buy = should be cheaper to produce.

Anyway, I don't think that this price increase is not from the increase in price in Japan.

It is a local distributor increase of price.

Canon Singapore Pte Ltd most probably is suffering as a result of the economic downturn.

They still have the same operating costs eg office rental, warehouse rental, staff pay (no retrenchment news from Canon S Pte Ltd as yet).

Therefore, the increase in prices because of increased operation costs!

Canon Singapore Pte Ltd is not a charity organisation - even charities have to 'make profit'. Bottom line for Canon(S) PL is TO MAKE PROFIT!

That is business.

Alternatively, buy from another source which offers better price.

Those retails that offer and can give the previous prices can do so because they have the stocks which were logged in at the lower prices. After all, whether it be CP, AP, etc - they all have the same bottom line - MAKE PROFITS!
