    Default tripod question

A friend of mine - who has now moved overseas - has a tripod that collapses neatly to a monopod. I believe it is designed for travel - fairly lightweight and durable.

Any ideas / recommendations on this type of tripod? I have not used a tripod in 10+ years so i'm clueless about this... but after some casual shopping i have not seen anything like my friend's.

    thanks!

dun know about being able to become a monopod, but Gitzo has a model that can reduce to a very small and short tripod.
can't remember the model offhand here....
Hope to learn from everyone here....

such a small tripod, I have doubts about its load-carrying capacity. Unless you're only mounting a prosumer or those small DSLR with kit lens.
    Exploring! :)

That's interesting. I sure wouldn't mind a tripod that transform into a monopod and back. Does it needs voice command? "Monopod Transform!"

I would be using this for a 40D and probably a Tamron 17-50
