What do you intend to shoot specifically? Landscapes, portraits, street etc.? It would help if you could be more specific in detailing your shooting needs and budget for these lenses.

my opinion:
wide angle ef 20mm f2.8 (anything more than this after factoring in the 1.6x multiplier doesn't give u the wide angle perspective, imho) potrait 50mm f1.8 (or the f1.4 if u want) becomes a 80mm on the 300d, good for portraiture. or can consider the ef 50mm or 100mm macro too. any prime above that then you need to consider larger budgets. as garion said, budget + intended subject matter is impt for suggestions to be made. |

Ok let me be more specific:
I need nice general purpose lens - for indoor (will buy flash as well) also some night shoots outdoor, group shots, street and travel photography. My budget around 300$, need to save money for Zoom as well. |

the 50mm 1.8 comes to mind, only about 130 +- in local shops. good lens!
or maybe u can save up a bit more and go for the 3rd party 24/28-70 zooms? don't know how much they cost tho. 600-800 prob. since your reqs are travel, group shots etc. watch out for 2nd sale on CS if you don't mind second hand stuff, can save quite a bit. -jon |

Do you already have the 18-55 kit lens ? Are you looking for lens in the same focal range or are you just looking for faster ( bigger aperture ) lens ? Look at some 20-35/f3.5 zooms. Tokina makes a good cheap one. I have it. It's nice and sharp, with a good solid feel to it. I've had it for 6 years and it's worked flawlessly. It is noiser since it is not USM, but its focuses fast and works fine with the 300D. It can be ordered from B&H for around US$190. It around US$230 after shipping. It's more than your budget, but it's infinitely more versatile in my humble opinion. Or buy a used one for around $300. |
