#1. Increase your exposure time to nicer reflection or wait till late night when the water is more calm, then the reflection will be nicer.

#2. Exposure for Merlion is spot on, but the background unexposed.

Since I am still new to photography I always have the same problem too. So i usually "cheat" by take 2 of different exposure then blend them in PS later.

My friend also suggest using cokin type GND filter.. don't know how it will turn out as I dont have 1 to try. No budget to get 1 yet.

I also want to know how the pro do it. Hopefully they will share..

Getting a GND is one way to overcome the problem of having 2 subjects of different exposure (One need shorter exposure, the other longer). But a cheaper way is to get a black card and use it to "dodge" to reduce the exposure needed for one of the subject (the one that need shorter exposure) while keeping the shutter open to get the correct exposure for the one with the longer exposure.

The feel for the 3 HDB shots are much better in term of exposure control. Good work.

Now, the next exercise is to play around with WB. The current feel of the photos are not bad. If you shot in RAW, try to tweak the WB to see what effect you can achieve.

For GND, it is not necessary unless you see yourself using it very often. But if you want, Tianya and Cokin are your best bet. For the best quality, go for Lee filter, but that will really cost you. Photographers generally like range of soft to hard edges depending on situation.

For the Black Card Technique, I am trying to come up with a Sticky thread. Do keep in view. Thanks.

i noticed tat u fixed your shutter time and varies the others, if the object you are shooting is stationary and no other movement, I will advise u to stick to low ISO 100m fix the aperture on f8 , play with the time, for picture #1, if you put on longer shutter speed, based on calculation of ISO 100 f8 with 8 sec exposure, you will be able to maintain the same photo but enchanced with the water base super smooth and clean..

the normal practice for new shooter will be shooting a few different setting of the same spot, in the old days, we need to write down the setting of wat we shot, now is so lucky, everything is in the exif. there is no harm shooting like 8 to 10 shots per location or even more.. try burst dif timing and dif aperture and see the different result, it wil be fun happy shooting. Another tip is when u shooting long exposure, if you don have a trigger, use 10 sec self timer , and also cover the viewfinder to prevent light from going in.
