This inexpensive lens is one of the sharpest lens produced by Nikon. If you dont shoot in low-light very often, then get this f1.8D. If you do, you may wanna consider the f1.4D version. Anyway both lenses are highly recommended.
Heard there are a shortage of these lenses. Anyone can recommend some places that still have stock? |

In my previous thread, did i mention or portrait the fact that 17-55mm is not as sharp as 50mm f1.8D ? I guess I didnt. 17-55mm is a very good piece of glass and if u have the budget to aquire it (which i think will cost more than $2000+), i'll really like you to do so. I wont be able to compare the 50mm with your tammy lens as I have no idea of its performance. Hopefully someone may comment on that. Last edited by bruggink; 15th February 2009 at 02:47 AM. |

Do you shoot at 50mm most of the time? If yes, 50mm F1.8 is a lens u need to get.. It's resolution and sharpness is as good as your tamron 17-50 (the tamron is one of the recommended zoom) at 50mm F2.8 compared between those 2, judging from the MTF data at photozone.de Even provide a 1 1/3 stop over your tamron 17-50 at 50mm It is approx. $185-$200, definitely a steal for a Nikkor.. If u need a 2 stops better lens, maybe AFD 50mm F1.4 is good, abt $550~ |

best lens at f2.8 for the price. otherwise the softness at f1.8 can be good for portraits.

I loved the 50mm f/1.8D for its speed, but unless u taking portraits with it, I think the limited angle of view on APS-C (same angle of view as 75mm on full-frame) leaves much to be desired.
![]() When I was using D80, ended up using 24mm f/2.8D most of the time instead as a walkabout lens. ![]() Now on D700, still found 50mm not wide enough, so sold it in the end to get a 35mm f/2D. ![]() On hind-sight, I should have kept the 50mm and sell now, since price would be better! Macham like stocks and shares liddat! ![]() IMHO, I would save the money and get a 35mm at BnS. |

Should I wait for 35mm f1.8 since I alry have the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8? Or just get the 50mm f1.8 to do portraits?
Btw where is OP??? |
