Did a little walk-around Candid for Vday today... supposed to be Vday theme, but I ended up shooting my usual candids again, hah.
Just a newbie, appreciate tips and corrections loads. Thanks in advance! All these pictures are just recropped, signed and otherwise untouched... any PP suggestions very much appreciated too! My favorite shot of the day: This shot makes me love my lens loads. ![]() 1200 x 800 version ![]() ![]() Ah, how I wish the stream was a little more in the frame. Will add a few more once I've gone thru my set. Thanks for viewing.

The 85mm is a really value for money lens, the center is usable wide open... but really, once you get your hands on the 135L, no lens below $2000 comes close to it. I'd say only 85L rivals it, and 200L beats it, but these lenses cost loads more. If you like the 135mm, really, just go for it, its worth every cent. The reason I upgraded from 85mm is also because I usually shoot tele. In terms of IQ, F4 onwards the difference between the lenses are less obvious, statistically speaking, 135L should be better; below F4, 135L beats 85mm by quite a mile, especially at the F2 mark. AF speed on the 135L is a lot faster, especially with AF limiter. So far my experience has been congruent with photozone's reviews. 85mm is with its advantages too. Its lighter, shorter and a lot easier to handhold, I've got quite a few sharp shots at 1/30s. As for 135L, if it drops below 1/200, I'd usually burst to get one steady shot, otherwise I find it risky. 85mm is also easier to use indoors, shouldn't be hard to figure. 85mm has other weaknesses tho. I've tried 5 copies in total, owned 2 copies before, 3 copies had horrible CA. (Really it doesn't go away until F4), made my printed paper look like a rainbow. Some are less sharp wide open, but F2.8 onwards they're quite consistent. I seldom stopped down below F2.5 on that lens (perhaps its a psychological thing). In terms of use for street shots, it really depends on your style. Personally, I prefer a tighter feel. It looks more up close and personal. 135L on a crop body works nicely for me. If you refer to the pictures above, the first girl is about 3-4m from me, the kids about 6-8m. If you're just posting online and need a longer tele, you can always crop real tight up to 100%, its sharp enough. =) Or 1.4X TC works quite well too, I'm looking to get one. What a long reply!
