$600 is pretty steep. My video cam of $3000 worth is extended by Panasonic at $165 for 2 years!
But considering the high possibility of shutter/mirror and CCD problems, better let those with the S2pro answer this. ![]() |

While its true that $600 does seem expensive, that's because of their lousy repair service. As you know, S2Pro uses Nikon F80 bodies. So since they don't have expertise with Nikon bodies, they keep a whole lot of spare empty F80 bodies on standby. In the event of a fault in a S2Pro which is not related to Fuji parts (eg. the CCD), they would then just blindly swap the entire body. If you don't have warranty, that swap would cost you S$1,200. So if you have another fault, that would cost you another S$1,200. This was told to me by Fuji Singapore themselves when I tried to bring in a S2Pro with a faulty shutter release button(won't focus).
I believe that if its a D100, Nikon would have parts and expertise to fix such a minor problem without the brute force means of changing a the whole camera. Its like saying that just because I got a dent on my car, I got to change the entire body, really stupid. My next digital SLR as far as possible will not be a Fuji but a Nikon (either D200?? or D2H), mainly due to the lousy support that Fuji has, which can turn to be very expensive. So my advice its to take it, unless you can find some third party who can service it, which I have not found yet. Last edited by robinchee; 31st October 2003 at 03:35 PM. |

That is so sad. In my opinion, Fuji has the best 'straight-out-of-camera' images thanks to the CCD. It's a shame to be paying such high a price for minor repair matters simply because they don't have their own body.
Well, I have remarked somewhere else, maybe they'll honour their commitment and jump into the four-thirds system, produce their own body for the next DSLR and then the repair cost may go down. |

If they go into the 4/3 system, that means new lenses to buy again ... and flash ... What's the cost to have an extended warranty on a D100? And does anyone know how Nikon handles repairs? Replace the whole body or repair/replace parts? |

I believe that since the S2Pro is based on the F80, Nikon should be able to repair it for you.
Abeit at a cost, that is. But definitely not $1,200. |
