If the aperture is not locked down at the minimum, this electronic sensor can't work properly. |

if you don't lock it, it might turn it to other aperture accidentally, causing camera to show ERR. |

You have to set to the minimun aperture f22 and lock it, if not the lens will not work.
"FEE" error will appear on your top LCD screen. Read the f1.8 manual and you will get it. |

For programmed auto or shutter-priority auto exposure shooting, use the minimum aperture lock lever to lock the lens aperture at f/22. 1 Set the lens to its minimum aperture (f/22) by aligning it with the aperture index. 2 Slide the lock lever toward the aperture ring, so the two orange dots are aligned. To release the lock, slide the lever in the opposite direction. so, do i need to set if i am using aperture prioity mode?

Yes, be it aperture/shutter/manual mode, need to set to f22.
You can try setting to other f values to see, your D90 will not work. Just set to f22, and use your camera to adjust the aperture value. Last edited by .Hack; 13th February 2009 at 01:02 PM. |

Good for you that you got your 50/1.8 before the price hike..
I'm considering the new 35/1.8 which will operate more like a 50 on my D200. =) |

Remember, as long as the lens has a aperture ring, you need to set it to the smallest aperture in order to work. |
