I had finally completed capturing the 8 kings of Singapore. Except for the Ruddy which is just a record shot.
The 1st I encountered was the biggest of them all. That was when I just picked up a 100-400L. This Strok-bill KF was a redo last year at SBG ![]() The 2nd I encountered was the noisy Collared KF. Back then I was so silly to keep chasing it round and round to shoot. Now I know its so plenty of them at JG where I got this shot. ![]() The 3rd KF I got was the White Throated. 1st time I saw it was at Lower pierce. I got this shot by the road side near jurong west. ![]() The 4th KF I got was the all popular Common KF. This is my favourite shot of this fella. ![]() |

The 5th KF I got was the elusive, skittish, sharpeyed Blackcap. Addicentally I was praticing my flight shot handholding my 500mm at lor halus on flying mynah. Suddenly out of the blue I saw something different from a mynah. Remembering Mark's word of wisdom. "Shoot first talk later" I just fired away. The image were sharp but ther were too tiny. Finally I manage to get a better shot at CG.
![]() Numbor SIX was really unexpected and I'm sure not many of you had got it in SG. Yup, that the worst blunder I made last year for mistaking the rare blue eared KF for the common. The blueear was shot with 40D + 400mm handheld. ![]() The one that got away was the Ruddy. Everytime I go there it did not appear. However one day I decided against a bad weather to go and there in the driziling rain I saw the Ruddy. However I can only manage a record shot. ![]() Finally the last of the lot is the current star of the forest, the Black back KF. I ever told Gilbert that if there is ever a news of its sighting in SG, I would even crawl there if I cant walk. Luckily I dont have to. ![]() |

To add on to my list of KingFisher, these are the Malaysian cousin
The 1st KF I got outside SG was the Rufous backed KF. ![]() Then last year, I got a record shot of the Rufous collared KF when I went to Panti. A few weeks later, while stalking the ODKF, we got the bonus as a pair appeared nearby ![]() |

On my trip to Darwin, I added another 5 KF to my collection
1st to greet us on arrival was the Forest KF. Note that it quite resemble the collared KF. I didnt get good shots of this fella as lighting was harsh. Redo???? (OMG I missed this on my list) ![]() Then we got the Scared KF ![]() Then on the boat trip, we got the Azure KF at close range. lighting was also very harsh and I dont think we got the true colour of the Azure. ![]() With luck, after shooting the rainbow Pitta, our good old friend Dr. Remo (Departed) spotted the little King. This KF is so small that we cant see it perched there. only when it dive did we manage to see it. ![]() The big KF or rather blue winged Kukaburra was the last of the KF we saw during the trip. ![]() Thanks all for viewing. I didnt have the best shot so please pardon the quality. I will try to Redo if I have the chance. Last edited by DeSwitch; 17th February 2009 at 11:43 PM. |
