Hi all. Is it worth uupgrading D70s to a D90? Or is it better to use the $$ and buy a better lens.
I only have the 18-70 kit lens bought 4 years ago. Still good but limited range. D70S still going strong but the viewfinder so small..... please advice. |

Go direct to D300 would be a much wiser choice.
The 5 FPS, 51 points focus, and FP mode for external flash etc are very critical for fast action shots. Other than that I still find the D70s camera very useful and fullfill most of my shooting needs.

With the exception of digital noise (above ISO400 ~ and I do shoot a lot above that), the D70S has been a very good camera to me. Still is.
Don't think you will see much improvement in the D90 VF... and I don't think the D70S kit lens is limiting at all... unless you want f2.8, better build, etc. D90 vs D300 comparison is available in many forums. Just google it. No lens first or body first for me. I prefer to do the tango ~ upgrade both at one go (work within your budget, of course). |

Whether it is worth or not depends on your needs. Is there a compelling reason why you need to upgrade body or lens?
If you need the new features of the D90, it would definitely be worth it. Same goes with the lens although in terms of reach, speed, build, etc. Ultimately, it's only you who can tell if it's worth it. I also use a D70s and contemplating to upgrade but I'm opting for a nikkor 200mm f4 micro instead. Anyway, bodies depreciate fast, I can wait 'til prices drop since my D70s still serves me well.

I recently got a D70s as a backup body and found it to be an excellent camera (my main body is the D300). The D70s has most of the features you need. It is 6MP, but again, that is more than enough if you are printing pictures the size of A4. I've mainly shot in RAW on the D70s.
If I were you, I would spend the money on getting lenses and flashes first before upgrading the body. |

Study the trend of all your photos taken before buying any item. |

Whether or not it's worth upgrading, depends on whether you really want those features. Else, you can invest in a longer telephoto zoom if you find your kit lens' range to be limited. |
