I understand that the 70-200 IS is a huge lens, together with the 10D + battery-grip, should weigh about 8kg (abt a 6-mth old baby). Now i m just wondering how do you carry this baby in your photoshoots, hike, etc..
Do you hang it on your neck? or do you just carry it? Can someone plse show us a pic of how you manage such a huge setup in you walkabout...... thanks! |

8 kg? Who told you that? The lens is no more than 2 kg + your 10D setup it is at most close to 3 kg.

70-200/2.8L IS USM is 1.47kg
10D is 875g (incl. batteries) And I don't think the battery grip is 8-1.47-0.875=5.655kg |

not that heavy rite?
10D+ grip+ 2 batteries only 1.23kg the lens only 1.47kg total 2.7kg, even if u throw in flash or filters still way short of 8kg |

If you are using Arca-style setup, this is good...
http://www.kirkphoto.com/accessories.html#straps Or you can DIY with a OpTech strap + quick release.

two method I normally use:
1st/low alert mode - this is when i sling it on my shoulder and move around, knowing that a shot is unlikely to take place. 2nd/high alert mode - during this mode, i hold the camera body in hand and the lens with the other, near to the chest, and ready for any photo oppotunity. Why I call it the low/high alert modes? For those of you who knows a bit about tactical manouvers with a semi-auto rifles will know what i am talking about. Yes, it looks similar, ain't it? |

probably abt 3.5kg, but it's still heavy when you are walking with it. |

Like my other weapon, I only take it out when I need it.
Otherwise it stays in my Mini Trekker, attached to my 10D with lens cap off and hood on. Taking it out is a matter of putting the bag on the floor, unzipping and yanking the rig out, while pressing the shutter button to wake up the camera. |

Its a huge lens, but I just hang it around my neck.
Sure beats trekking around with a heavy backpack ![]() |

Walking with lens & body mounted to monopod looks weird and also not easy to move about. |

Sling the shoulder and carry... hanging it around your neck does look awkward.
It's heavier than EF300mm f/4 L IS & EF400mm f/5.6... then again all f/2.8 lens are rather big... ^^ 7Kg range? One lens I can think is the EF400mm f/2.8.

70-200 f2.8 IS + 10D + grip + flash isn't that heavy... once you get used to it, of course...
the joy of shooting with it should take your mind of the weight completely. otherwise you should be questioning yourself why you bought such equipment in the first place... ![]() |
