This new Nikkor AF-S DX 35mm f/1.8G prime lens is confirmed by Nikon Japan!
![]() The new 35mm AFS looks quite similar to the new AFS 50mm prime. It looks like the New Nikkor AFS prime lenses will look like the above from now onwards. http://www.nikon-image.com/jpn/products/lens/dx/ http://www.nikon.com/about/news/2009/0209_nikkor_01.htm PDF Product Brochure Here :- http://www.nikonusa.com/Assets/Camer...Sell_Sheet.pdf Nikon's Sample Photo Here :- ![]() It's good news for DX users as they will now get a standard focal length equivalent of 50mm. However, as an FX user, I'm still hoping for Nikon to come up with more updated FX prime lenses.

seems like the price is EUR250. a far cry to 50/1.8D..
either i get a full frame some day, or i'm getting this.

Rather interesting price point (around S$300), which seems rather affordable for a fast WA prime.
I think if they can constantly produce affordable and good DX lenses, the DX format will still be here to stay for quite some time. EDIT: Oops, so it's EUR250 or USD200 (from Rob's site)? Last edited by SNAG; 9th February 2009 at 12:32 PM. |

i prefer my 35mm F2D. no need to even try this lens.
now, if this were full frame, then it would really be something to shout about. ![]() but it's a good buy for d60,40,40x users who know they will not be upgrading their camera body anytime soon

they will not phase out DX anytime in the near future...for 1 reason...the market sharp is somewhat larger than FX

i agree. they should be thinking of selling more D40 and D60 alike, cos that's how beginners usually start their DSLR journey (and future sales for nikon). so AF-S DX lenses are indispensable.

I was scratching my head too... I guess they are trying to satisfy the DX market with a cheap and good "standard" prime lens. This is perhaps the first DX prime from Nikon.
It also suggests that they could not do much to improve the IQ and focus speed of the AF-D 35/2 lens. So no point coming up with a more expensive AFS 35/2 that no one will buy? Nikon received a lukewarm reception to their AFS 50mm i think. |

Good price point, should be about $350 Sing max. If they have made it as a FX lens then the price would be not far from AFS 50mm f/1.4G, maybe slightly more if we compare the prices AFD 50mm f/1.4 and AFD 35mm f/2 (the 35mm is slightly higher).
I may get this for my light weight outfit with D60... See how the recession goes... And now to wait for a AFS DX 14mm or AFS DX 20mm to provide for WA in DX format... Last edited by diediealsomustdive; 9th February 2009 at 01:26 PM. |

DX IMHO is here to stay. Market segments: FX, DX, bridge cameras, compacts - all have their place in the hierachy of cameras. I definitely will recommend DX DSLR to my friends who want good quality, relatively lower cost and small size. Even personally I will keep a DX camera like the D60 (which I have) along side my (dream) FX camera.

Nikon's new products are often available 1 month after the press release.
According to this USA press release (dated 9th Feb 2009), it'll be available in March 2009. http://press.nikonusa.com/2009/02/ni..._fastest_d.php

Sounds good, finally a cheap AF-S prime, who cares if it's just DX

the MTF looks so much better.
I REALLY hope nikon give us an updated FX WA prime. the old optical designs looks really poor compared to what they can do now. |

This is not a wide lens. This a normal lens for the DX frame size.
If it's S$300 it's going to be somewhat disappointing. It's not that much cheaper than the 35/2. |
