Black Back KingFisher. This is the Fourteenth Kingfisher I had collected and the most beautiful of the lot.
![]() ![]() ![]() Kingfisher are best shot without flash (or just a little fill in) so as to get the natural colours of the bird. When flashed, the feathers will "glow". Last edited by DeSwitch; 12th February 2009 at 04:52 PM. |

Garion, its about 6m to 10m away. This fella totally ignored our presence. There was a pair of Racket-tailed Drongo which keep chasing it away though.

Nope. They are migratory birds and dont breed here so chances of seeing a chick will be harder than striking 4D. This Forrest Kingfisher is about 12.5cm to 14cm in size. (beak to tail)

This is an Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher, similar to the one posted here:
http://npss.org.sg/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=883 Did you spotted it late in the evening, that's why you are using full flash? I hope to get a good look myself soon. I certainly agree it's very colourful. |

Most ppl call it under the general group Oriental Dwarf which includes the Rufous back which looks and even the call is similar. Here's a photo of the Rufous back KF I shot last year. Notice the difference in the colour of its wing feathers ![]() |
