Finally got a chance to test my friends 500mm lens.
It was very cloudy + windy tonight (midnight), so I didnt waste much time on this. Nikon D90, 500mm lens, F6.3 (lowest I could go), focal length 500mm, 1/200 sec, spot metering, manual focus, standard scene, Aperture mode, Daylight white balance <pic deleted from flickr> . 1024 pixels wide is quite normal here. The only problem is it's also 1024 high, only because its a round image.
What's a better resolution? o.O That image is actually a 100% crop, hence why I kept it that size. |

Nice shot! But it over-exposed. Most of the craters detail gone. Best way is to shot few frames in different exposure and combine together.

Superb shot Troy. I wish I could borrow your 500mm lens but mine is Canon. The max I could go is only 250mm, no enough reach to capture the detail like yours.

For moon shot, I wish I can have a 600mm plus a 1.7x tele-converter. Or telescope will do too.

why are the details more prominent at the 1 o'clock position of the moon? the texture is almost like 3-D effect.
