got my hands on the much awaited 300D recently. i must say canon has made the dslr much more affordable to all, well at least at the entry level.
but i discovered 1 minus point ...... the pop up flash 'pops' up so 'strong' that i can feel the jerk. i dont feel the same thing (jerking effect) on my eos 50e. all i can say that is the pop up flash of 300D is not as smooth as eos 50e. CAN ALL NEW OWNERS OF 300D SHARE THEIR VIEW HERE OR JUST THAT THE CAM I TRIED HAVE THIS PROBLEM. this made me think twice before i pamper myself with this cam. |

your experience with the pop-up flash of 300D speaks for itself. As an ex-user of EOS 300, the equivalent of 300D, I can only say that you will get for what you pay. But hope that you'll continue to take pictures you like with the 300D

will still continue to take pic wif my eos 50e, but venturing into dslr will need to be postponed.
since 300D is not in my list anymore, i will go i level higher.....maybe D60 or 10D. |

yes. the pop up flash really pops up. but its no big deal.
in anycase, i'm using 2 x 420ex instead..so its not even an issue. |

Scud, you're giving the 300D a miss bcoz of the popup flash 'jerking'? How does that affect anything? You pop up the flash BEFORE you take the picture, so it does not affect the picture taking in any way. And i'm sure there's no physical recoil mechanism when the flash goes off.
FWIW, the high pop-up flash is a PLUS point of the 300D. It's designed to be higher so that it will not be blocked by fatter lenses and reduce red eye possiblity. Something even the 10D does not have. If this is your only reason for rejecting the 300D, well, no offense, but it's ridiculous. Even L lenses rattle a bit sometimes when shaken. BTW, i'm not saying anything for or against the 300D - just contributing to the discussion. |

agree with you that the flash is higher than other models.
also if external flash is used, it will not be a concern. guess that we can't possibly expect the best of all world with this cam. well, may be still consider it......thanks buddy. |

Does shaking the camera help with photo taking?
Anyway, I find that there is almost no manual control of the pop-up flash. Only good for snap shot - no fill-in control, no compensation. |
