Wonder how it compares with a 58mm f1.2 lens....
Keen to go out and shoot together?

Hi, I love Pic no.14! beautiful bokeh
nice lens, but i've read about the inconsistent Af focusing of this lens,
a shame that Sigma has quite a bit to catch up in it's QC....

Hey TheChef, I just realised 2 weeks ago you asked me about the price of Sigma... ho ho. So, you got yours. Awesome!! Try it on f2.8, the pic is really sharp. At f4... the sharpness even better. I love using it on f2 most of the time combining sharpness and beautiful bokeh.

Thanks for the remarks. Yup.. heard of the complaints on front/back focusing issues. I didn't get that on mine, so pretty lucky (maybe problem not surface yet..haha). I think besides the pricing, the QC is another issue that turn people away. If not, I am sure most would have loved to have it in their inventory.

Yes, you're right. I just got mine. A perfect lens for taking portraits and yet versatile enough to take event shots like Thaipusam, Motorshows, Sentosa Flowers, etc. too.

Hi, I just bought the 50mm two days ago, do check out my model shots on Saturday using this lens at my flickr.com/gerries_photography
It gives excellent bokeh like the following:

I noticed that shooting at full 1.4 will have some blurring at the eyes for 3/4 headshots, 1.8 - 2 gives sharpest in the eyes, and have some nice bokeh.

Yup, Gerries welcome to the Sigma 50mm f1.4 club..lol Like you said, f2 is pretty sharp and with good bokeh, it is my fav mode of usage on the Sigma 50. But at low lit areas/night, f1.4 still comes in very handy with wonderful bokeh (tho pic not as sharp as f2).

Have heard that some copies of this lens exhibits front focussing when focussing at subjects less than 5-6 feet away. But when you get the focus spot on, the sharpness of this lens at 1.4 surpasses even those legendary German 50s that people rave so much about.

Yup, its a really good lens. The pic 17 is taken at f1.4 btw as the room is dark (in National Museum). You can see even at 1.4, the pic is still sharp.
