Hi Guys, Newbie here needs advise on which is a better recommendation for taking macro shots, Extension Tube or Teleconverter? Thinking to use my nikkon 105mm AIS with either of the suggested. Please advise if I'm getting it all wrong. Thanks in advance.

Based on my experience, it is better to use an extension bellow than an extension tube. ![]() |

that is an extension tube. not bellows.
if you're using an af lens and you want to use the af function, make sure the tube supports it. most cheap tubes needs manual focusing. one more thing some does not support nikon af g lens due to no aperture coupling on the lens. my $1 worth. |

...pls excuse my ignorance but does'nt the bellows and extension tube work on the same principle or at least produce the same result ie to do macro shots?. Bellows as i see it is more convenient as you turn the knob to get the lens closer or farther from subject whereas using extension tube you have to move forward or backward to get closer or farther from subject, no? I have no experienxe using either. If the extension tube produces same result then I might go for it as it's cheaper, just to play, play with macro.

The cheapest way to 'play' macro photography is to reverse mount a 50mm or 105mm lens (manual focus only). All you need is a reverse mount attachment (available from Orient Photo, TCW, Alex Photo and P&G). The total cost for such a setup is usually less than S$20 (excluding lens, of course).
