Default Getting my First DSLR

Hi all, it's time for me to start photography & I wanna get my first DSLR.
I'm looking & comparing both the Canon DSLR 450D and the Canon 80D.
Is these two a good all-rounder DSLR? Or anyone can recommend a better model maybe?

I'm going to get second-hand ones, and these are the best 2 deals that I can find.

CANON 450D:
Condition:9.5/10, with screen protector on since day 1
Standard pakage comes with 4gb mem card, strap, batt, charger, box, manuals and kit lens -18-55mm IS USM
Extras: Tripod, bag and 5yrs warranty frm Courts.
bought on 06/06/08, rarely used, kept in dry box always.
PRICE: $1100

NIKON 80D:
Have receipt and warranty card. Warranty from Nikon has 5mths.
1GB SD card, 1 Battery
Shutter count at below 8k.
PRICE: $1050

Which one do you think I should get? I tried to compare the features but both seems like good enough for me.
Appreciate all the help available, thanks!!

Hello...welcome.

Both are good cameras which can help to produce good images. It really depends on what you need and see which suits your hands better.

Not sure how receptive you are towards other brands, but for this price you could actually get a brand new Sony A300/A350 kit which has live view and build in stabliser. I believe if you were to do some research on Pentax or Olympus, you could get some good bargains from each brand too.

Happy CNY to ALL! Can oso consider a used D200 at that price. It's a better choice, am using it and is happy with it.

Better is subjective. The two bodies ( and many other brands ) are pretty all rounded for a typical starter setup.

Get within your budget, and not to forget to budget for other accessories like batts, memory, cleaning kit, dry cabi etc ..

Go down to the shops to handle them and see how comfortable they mould into ur hands before u make your decision

That's very good advice.

Sometimes, it's not a matter of which camera is best, but which camera's ergonomics you like best!

You can try Harvey Norman, they normally have very good customer service and let you try out different cameras and lenses.

Please find me a D90 kit for < $1100. I'll go and buy it IMMEDIATELY.
Sigh... might as well say "why get the D80 when you can get the D700?"

Given the 2 option, I would recommend the 450D

Wow! I really appreciate all of your replies!
Alright, I'll do some further research in the next few days to finalize what I should get.
Actually my budget is about $1k - $1.1k so I might not be able to afford a brand new one at the moment.

Will come back here again if I have further question.
Can't wait to participant more in this community!

Actually if you can do w/o the live view, the Sony A200 with kit lens (brand new) is below $900 and you still have extra $ for a dry cabinet.

your 1.1k is for cam body only or everything (kit lens, dry cabi, memory cards etc)? dont think the D80 is worth it at all at $1050...like some mentioned, u can get D80 in B&S section for around $700-$800 (dep on condition). u still hab some spare change for the 18-55VR kit lens and some accessories...

with luck, u might be able to get D90 2nd hand body for 1.1-1.2k? so y settle for D80?

a brand new 450D w kit lens costs <$1140, that's the lowest price i got from mscolor, which comes with 8gb, bag, extra ori batt and screen protector. Why get a second hand @ 1100? the only extra u got is a tripod and 5 yrs courts warranty.

Hi, a brand new D80 (body only) is round $875. I think the quote you've got is too high.

Both are very capable cameras. So it depends on your preference. A Nikon user will tell you go for the D80 while a Canon user will tell you otherwise. Take a look at the galleries and you will find great photographers using both bodies. If you have friends who have them, try borrowing them and have a try. Buy the one you find make more sense to you.
