    Default singapore budget: job credits

I read a post in another forum.

Someone said the job credits (which is capped at $2500) introduced will encourage people to retrech expensive 40+ old workers and replace them with cheaper newer guys. ie u cut one old bird, replace with 2 new birds and get double job credits.....

mmm.... I never looked at it that way....

Yup, the job credits favour hiring more cheap workers than fewer expensive workers.

it is not as simple as that; if the 40+ year old worker has experience that is required to the firm that the new bird cannot provide, then the firm is going to suffer.

just simply cutting assumes homogenity amongst workers. that may be truth for industries with typically high turnover rates - in which case it would not apply anyways.

    yep. i agree.

you will not soo much of this happening in jobs that requires long periods of training, that new birds coming in will not replace the experience and knowledge of the old birds.

you will see this happening more for jobs that requires very little training, such as warehousing assistants, etc.

in this current state of economy, all one's could think of is laying off worker, in order to keep the company floating. it's a senseless world now. they wouldn't care too much abt retaining talent and experience ppl. and it'll serve them right if the economy take a turn for the best, and they find themselves lacking capable n valuable employee.

one example, a semi-con retrench my fren; later to discover that he is talented and a lousy decision to remove him. once gone, it's gone forever.
