Was just wondering if anyone would be interested in a small group of photographers focused on food photography?

The rough objectives would mainly be:

1) Get together to share ideas
2) make more rewarding shoots possible
3) participate in hands-on shoots
4) help each other learn the basics of food photography and
5) make new friends.


The main problems facing most hobbyist if I'm not mistaken are:

1) Getting presentable food to shoot
2) Ideal shooting location / conditions
3) Technical aspects - lighting
- shooting
4) Aesthetics - set styling

If we pool together and share ideas and resources, it might get us a lot further than shooting on our own. For example, we can share location, skills, set materials and so on.

This group would, for a start, be focused on non-professional enthusiasts interested in the above objectives, and are serious about learning and growing where food photography is concerned, and are willing to put in the effort needed. I mention this because Food Photography is largely technical and usually very demanding.

Working professionals are most definitely more than welcome to share!

Please share your food shooting experience(s), preference, problems faced and thoughts and ideas or anything that you wished you could do but was limited either by equipment, proper presentation or technique/knowledge.

NOTE: Please do NOT post up photos of food you have taken as that would clutter up the thread. Seek your kind understanding. ;-)

WOW!

I really didn't think the numbers would build so fast!

Let's cap it at this number max for now.

The reason is simple: too many people and it would be very difficult to really discuss anything or get it going/organised.

For the first meet, I suggest setting the following objectives:

1) Intro ourselves
2) Get to know each other and our shooting levels
3) Discuss what we would like to do and how to go about achieving it, since food shoots involve quite a bit of planning

DATE: This Sunday, 1 Feb 09 (Or you all prefer after all the New Year thingies are over?)
TIME: 3pm -5pm
PLACE: Somewhere near Cityhall (TBC)

Please let me know if this is ok with you, and if you're a smoker (I know a lot of photographers who are smokers).

Hello!

I'd like to be part of this group but I won't be available this and the following weekend.

As a suggestion though, maybe we can look for food shots from magazines and try to replicate them. Like pouring wine, splashing, dipping or simple arrangements. That way, we can plan which materials to bring as it takes a lot of time to prepare food than to shoot it.

The idea is to learn by copying. Then after that, we experiment with the same materials.

Just some of my thoughts.
