Smile Metz Flash on S5pro

Dear all,

I have been considering either SB800 or a Metz Flash for my Fuji S5pro. Any kind soul to share the user experience? HK & Taiwan sites seems to offer very good review on Metx due to very good WB & accurate color, but it also highlighted some quality issue as well.

safest bet will be sb800. yes, metz is very good but you need to make sure it's fully compactible with i-TTL as in nikon systems because your S5pro supports i-TTL just like Nikond D200. unfortunately the support for metz in sg is very poor.

I agree with Jacob.

Metz flashes no doubt good, but have compatibility issues with newer Nikon and Fujifilm DSLRs i-TTL system. I know a friend who bought the Metz mecablitz 58 AF-1, and he sold it later for a Nikon SB900. He said he encountered several problems using the Metz with his D700.

I am narrowing down to Nikon SB800 & SB900, as both flashes support Auto Aperture mode that SB600 does not. SB900 is physically bigger & heavier, but not really more poweful in term of GND. I have also came across user reviews that highlighted the possibilities of overheating issue on SB900. Please kindly share your view. Thanks.

Just remember that SB900 seems to have some issue in identifying the S5pro as a full film format sensor in some of the older firm ware.

That is what I heard also. This is why I still use the SB800 instead of upgrading.

I've been using Metz 54 and 54i (with SCA M6) head flash on my Nikon D1h/D1x/D2h/D2x bodies. No issues. Also still using my trusted Metz 60-CT4 full manual. Performance and colour output is good.

However, Metz's support locally is bad. Every repair has to be shipped back to Germany. By the way, I own a 60-CT4 too.

auto and manual compatible only for all old metz models. no ttl/ittl unfortunately on S5pro. it's a good flash when u need to POWER!

Metz flashes in auto mode uses a auto sensor just like Nikon speedlites in AA mode..u oni need to dial in the ISO and aperture u r using..and viola as good as TTL..

a pity my auto sensor went nutty..can oni use manual mode..still using it to play occasionally.
