I have this err05 for awhile, but recently it has changed from just intermittent to a permanent error each time I set flash mode photography.
I read from the internet that's due to flash obstruction, but my flash pops up fine (no obstruction) but despite that i can hear 3 clicks and then the error message appears. I tried all methods such as slowly close the flash cover, or pushing the flashcover to the right as I closes it, but to no avail. I know I probably can overcome this with an external flash, but I hate the idea of something not working in my camera. I am just wondering if there's a DIY method to resolve this, or if Canon will service this for a token sum. If I have to spend a bomb to repair this, then I would have gotten a new body, but at this time, I prefer to spend my money on new lens. advise? |

With the flash open, did you try wiggling the little silver catch a few times, then try again?

Do you only get the error when the cam tries to deploy the flash automatically, or does the same thing happen when you press the flash button?

With the flash deployed and the err05 displayed, have you tried off/on and remove/reinsert battery? Does the error still appear after cycling the power?

So, regardless of whether the camera decides to deploy flash, or whether you manually pop the flash up, you still get Err 05?
Guess it's time to make a trip to CSC. |

Anybody knows what'll be the cost going to be? If it's too much, I'm going to leave it as it is, and invest in flash and save up for new body upgrade... |

If it was my 350D, I would already have a screwdriver out to look inside
Try to spot anything obvious disconnected or blocking the internal flash mechanism. If nothing obvious then time for repair!R U good with mechanical/electrical/electronics stuff? Have patience? or... http://www.canon.com.sg/section/cust...charges-dc.jsp

Please don't dig around the flash area with any tools unless you are very sure of what you're doing, because you can be in for a nasty shock (of electrical nature).
