Dear fellow CSers,
I'm wondering how do you temporary off your external flash during an indoor shot? Cause at the moment I'm turning off the flash n turning it on.. Other than that gotta go in C.fn to off the external flash which is quite troublesome. Regards, Shin.

if you're using the 580EXII, theres a setting in custom functions that allow you to set the timing of your auto power off...

Unless of course, you *are* running low on batts, then I'd suggest you buy a few more rechargeables.

The point is that Shin Howard wanted to avoid trigger the flash under certain circumstances while leaving the flash on. And he's asking if there's a way to do it other than manually switching the flash on and off.Guess the question is being mis-interpreted.

If your body has the C1 (custom mode) on the dail you can register the custom function to disable the flash firing for that mode
Remember to leave it on so it dosent affect the rest of the modes. |

The fastest way to turn the flash off is by turning the on/off switch. I don't think it is going to break the flash if you do that a few times during an event. I do that all the time...

This is possible with "external flash control" menu in 5D mk II. Not sure if it was there in other cameras, XXDs for instance.
However it's not half as easy as using the manual switch, even if you move it to custom menu. |

Besides the physical switch and the custom function, there is no other way, really.

Hmm.. I don't have my 40D handy.. but perhaps you can try exploring the "My Menu" functionality and then programming the Set button (maybe even override the PictBridge button to trigger the ext flash on/off).
:Later,
