Just like to ask if anyone found the pix a little soft. 'cos when i tried pp sharpen, it seems to look better.
slightly soft la, but its normal, if i were to use my dslr to take, i think also will be soft, due to the low shutter speeds and short zoom range :P

    WOAH ARE YOU MAD?!? Haha.

Why didnt you buy the 24-70mm F2.8 L instead? They're nearly the same price!

Just a note, there is no IS for 24-70mm lens which is found in the 24-105mm...

Aye, true, but depending on what you shoot, IS can be overlooked most of the time. I just felt that the 24-70 is more bang for bucks.

To me not really.... IS is very important to me.... Even in F4 shots, I can also use a bounced flash to control my lighting... to make it as "bright" as F2.8

I think this will boil down to preference already... in anycase, haha I know my expression was kind of over-reactive, but it was just an expression.

Both are equally good lenses, but given the prices, I'd go for the F2.8.

With Flash, there are 2 ways to see it. If you have flash, most probably you're at least clearing 1/60s and you probably can push your shutter up and pump your flash harder for hand-holdable speeds.

For me, I try to avoid relying on flash for main light, to me, flash is strictly for filling or at best abit of lighting compensation. (This would be in events context, portraits would be a different story). If shallow DOF is not an issue, I'd still shoot at F2.8 even without flash, to catch as much natural light as I can. Even if that means pushing ISO up to 800.

Then again, I'm not pro with the flash, so others may feel otherwise. But all in all, I prefer speed over the IS. The bit of range can be compensated I guess, although the range makes a good walk around for FF.

In discussion with some pros, they expressed that if you do events, most of the times you won't need faster than F4 since you will want to capture everyone in your pics and need a big DOF. That may be the best reason I can think of for choosing the 24-105L instead.

err... we are starting to become a non-panasonic forum. =X

Anyway, a lot of people have been asking for outing yar... I haven't got the motivation to plan, and our dear skyguy has been really busy too! Myself I am working hard for my coming exams as well. But 20 March - 5 Apr is an ideal time for me to play around with my camera Anyone can throw in a suggestion, I really don't know Singapore well hah. ? I can still be the point of contact.

Depend on the focal length that you are shooting, using IS would allow you to use a slower shutter speed and allow you get in more light.

To me with good control of your ETTL flash & favorable condition, ambient lighting could still be capture with the use of bounced flash. Like you mention earlier for indoor event shoot, normally most of use an external flash & use a smaller aperture (bigger DoF). If you are using a bigger aperture such as F2.8 (or bigger), I guess you could use burst shots in place of IS...

This depends too I think... hm. Melvan and I just did an event coverage last saturday. Don't know about his shots, but I think he was using faster shutter speeds. For me, I used 1/80s, ISO 800, F4.5, FEC about -1.7 on a 24-85mm F3.5-4.5 throughout. I find that lens a cheap alternative to the 24-105L, like 20% the price, & good wide open. In anycase thats not my main point, the sad thing is that I lost quite a few spontaneous moments due to subject movement, not handshake. I didn't consider on that day that 1/80 might be too slow & didn't have time to review properly. =(

Anyway, care to share how do you usually use your settings? I was kinda struggling with finding the proper FEC that day.
