how come it doesn't look focused to me?
anyway for such close-ups, recommended would be bounced flash + macro + close-up lens? |

some are not focused very well. Most shots are taken with my right hand while my left hand is holding the fly. |

Ur.... it seems dead. I hope you did not kill it.
I love nature photography but please take them in their natural habitat without duress. In Picture one, one of its legs have already broken off. Damselflies and Dragonflies uses their legs as a basket to catch flying prey. ![]() |

Yes I agree with Zplus. Please respect the insect while taking pictures of it.You might think that no physical damage is done . By handling its wings or body you would have damaged its natural structure and also leave a layer of your skin oil on it.

I am sorry of my misdeed to the fly. I may have got carried away during my hunt for insect macro and I didn't mean any harm to the insect. All I did was took some pics and let it go. The broken leg is not caused by me and the fly flew off after I released it. U really need to look at its eyes to tell if its alive. |

When I first saw the pics, my reaction was ... what the
... how did this guy took those "balancing act" pics! ... the damselfly looked stiff too. ![]() Oh well... that's cruel indeed. :Later,

In your zest to get a decent shot, you got carried away and caught that poor blimey and subjected it to GOD knows what....
A couple of years ago, in a competition organised by a local magazine, it was suspected that one of the entries carried a picture of two young birdings that were glued to the branch just outside the nest. The photographer then took a picture when the mother came back to feed them and submitted this pic for the competition. Imagine the truama and anxiety caused to the young birds and mother. Enuff said. Hope you learn your lesson and respect those little guys. They have their stories to tell too. A nature photographer once said "Take only pictures but leave behind your footprints." ![]() Last edited by Lion king; 28th September 2003 at 03:28 AM. |

Hi Bigmouse,
I hope you and all of us here have learn from this(at the expense of the poor insect) episode. Your spontaneous apology shows that you meant no malice but it certainly has done some harm to the insect, imagine the trauma it has to go thru for you to take the pics. The first thing I learn in nature photography is to respect and appreciate all living things big or small and if I cannot take the shots because it may harm the creature so be it, at least I get to see and appreciate it. I think Lion King has surmarised it well. And I am also glad that Clubsnap has a good number of sensible and good nature lovers to keep us in check. |
