Default Nikon d90 or Canon 40D

    hi guys

I'm switching from prosumer cam (ricoh gx100) to DSLR. Having a hard time deciding on the d90 or 40d.. Price wise the 40d is more attractive but the d90 is very tempting too. Budget bout 2k. I havent seen many 40d pics, btu d90 pics are plenty on this site...

    Pls help, thanks!

    Some D90 vs 450D thread.

    Nikon D90 or Canon 40D
    Canon 40D or Nikon D90?
    Nikon D90 or Canon 40D
    nikon D90 or canon 40D

Too me, the ergonomics of D90 is better than 450D.
Feel more natural on my hands.

You have to feel the camera. Even the shutter sounds different.

Canon 40D was my pick. No regrets.

For me before i got my Nikon D90 i never considered Cannon as all person i knew before hand had Nikon but just before i was planning to buy i got new friends who use cannon and was trying to convince me to buy cannon. But guess what in the end i went to Nikon D90. What i did was simple they were all telling me to buy Cannon 50D and since budget was not in play i was keen to go for it seeing the spec's but after doing some research i find out that the 50D is not a very good upgrade from 40D as because the noise control of 50D is not so good compare to 40D. In that perceptive a 40D would give me sharper images. But then if i were to take a 40D might as well take a D90 since even higher pixel than 40D the noise control is better. I know if you take 50D compare to D90 most ppl would go for 50D but then when you think about it you buy the latest 50D and your getting worst image "in terms of noise control " than 40D which equal not a very good buy at all from my perspective.

what u says makes sense from research point of view... but personally, only my view point.. i find that 50D will be too heavy for me to lug around... and i like the D90 11pts AF lor... i still waiting for the price to come down some more... i believe it shld.. cos D90 is from thailand and the jpn exchange rate wont affect it... this could oso be why 50D is price more steep.. hee... i not in a hurry... so i can wait... the above said for my case only...

If I were you I will get the Canon 50D. Though there are more megapixels (50% more) in the 50D sensor than in the 40D, the noise is still quite acceptable though a pinch more. I will not by 50D now as there are no movie mode yet.

I will only buy D90 for the ability to shoot movies. Performance wise, I still put my trust in Canon.

Read carefully the terms of the H. Norman 5 year warranty and decide if it's worth the extra money. Read it for youself, do not rely on the explanation from the sales staff. Remember you will be paying full retail price plus the extended warranty.
I know I'm a lousy photographer. I just enjoy the PROCESS of taking a picture. EOS 450D

I talked to a Sifu in Photography recently. He owned 50 lenses of all types (both Nikon and third parties) that fits all of his Nikon cameras. After 20 years of photography, he said to me that owning a Canon is actually necessary... This is to enable him to get some of the very excellent L Canon lenses. He said that its the lenses that matters most...

Hence if you have the money, buy both canon and nikon bodies. This will enable you to be very flexible in the future...

You can have a Nikon D700 with an entry level Canon EOS 1000D. Or you can have a Canon 5DMkII with an entrylevel Nikon D60.

    Cheers

Then he should have gotten a Sony to get the G and CZ lenses.

Nikon has very, very good glass; many lenses are better than the Canon L lenses. And not all L lenses are good.

Cannot imagine investing in 2 schools of lenses.
That will be a very huge investment.
For me, i would rather just concentrate on one body, be it Nikon/Canon/Sony etc.
Once decided on the body, then can go on to get the desired lenses.
I feel the money spent will be more worthwhile.

To me, that's not a "Sifu". That's just a gearhead lens collector. Most professional photographers won't have more than 4-5 lenses.

    50 lenses???? Pffffffft
