Default What image recording quality (L, M, S) to use?

What should be the recommended image recording (L, M , S etc) quality to use?

Am i right to say that we should shoot at the highest pixels count (eg. L and Fine) and then resize it accordingly on the pc.

This question has been discussed and debated since the day digital camera was invented.
The politically correct answer is: shoot at the highest quality resolution (L) that you can afford.

the size of highest quality setting on my cam is about 3.1mb, jpeg.
