Have been reading reviews and this seems to be one of the best wide-angle zoom in terms of optical performance (it loses to the top end lenses from Canon and Nikon) and beat the Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 EX DF slightly. It's pretty light too (265g) and it's cheap (~USD100).
Thought it might be a good alternative compared to lenses like the Canon 24-85 f/3.5-4.5 or the other usual stay-on lenses. Just a thought.... I won't be getting this though. reckon the 18-55mm that comes with my camera to be sufficient for this range. |

A Zoom with the Coverage of at least (28mm - 70mm for 35mm Format) would be a better choice as a Stay on lens. The 24-70 f2.8 give you around ( 39mm - 110mm ). I think you'll find this lens too long for most landscape shots.
The Cheapest best option to the 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 is actually the 17-40mm F4 L ( 27mm - 64mm ). The Expensive best option is the 16-35mm F2.8 L ( 26mm - 56mm ). |

agree 18-55 isn't an option for other DSLR users though. |
