Default S5Pro with Zeiss - total diferent camera!

Hello,

I was using my S5Pro with a few Nikon primes such as the 85 f/1.4 and the 105 f/2.5 AIS. To be totally honest I was enjoying more the IQ rendering from the AIS than from the cream machine (even for portriats)... so shoot me if you want
A few days ago I gambled and received the Zeiss 25 f/2.8 (which is in theory a little less than some other Zeiss).
Well, let me tell you that from my early experience the S5Pro seems a diferent camera when coupled with the zeiss. I love the rendering, the colors, micro contrast, sharpness. Never realised I would love the zeiss look which is very diferent from the Nikon. Plus this lens is a pleasure to MF and it is built like a tank but with finesse. I believed I made a mistake when ordering it and was thinking of selling it to purchase the Zeiss 35 f/2 instead. But it is already my favourite together with the AIS and I will keep it and decided to only buy zeiss in the future even if it takes me 10 years to do so!
I am very happy and would only wish the viewfinder to be better to MF. I have considered the Katzeye but the not so easy installation with the S5Pro and the lack of experience in this department scares me! I donīt have any near service center to perform this operation so I would have to do it myself. I still thing I might risk it since I will be using more and more MF lens in the future.
At the moment Iīm using mostly the Zeiss and AIS. The 50 f/1.8 for fast focusing situations and not that much the 85 f/1.4 - I would never believe it if you told me a few months ago!
Iīm really thinking to trade the 85 f/1.4 for the zeiss equivalent, despite the knowledge of the very dificult MF issue with the zeiss when wide open because of the very thin DOF. Still, Iīm no pro, just an hobbyst so I donīt have nothing to loose.
Do you think I might have gone crazy or any of you realised something similar once you tried a Zeiss?
I do not understand why there arenīt more people trying those lens or debating them more. I think the IQ and built deserves it... even if MF and steep price.

Totally agree.

That's why I have been using Carl Zeiss ZF lenses for my personal works ever since I discovered its magic.

Another brand of lenses to consider is Voigtlander SL and SLII series with N-mount. Also, made by Cosina in Japan. Some Voigtlander lenses (when used with the S5 Pro) actual deplict the feel and look of Leica lenses very well.

This is a Fujifilm forum and you are always welcome to comment, but it is inappropriate of you to hijack and revise attention.

There are many fine reasons why some of us prefer Fujifilm DSLRs to Sony Alphas. Therefore, please respect our choices, read and learn, if you have nothing to write.

In return, I can assure that you will never see me singing praises on how good the colors from my Fujifilm DSLRs look in the Sony/Konica-Minolta forum.

Zeiss ZF lenses are simply awesome! Sheer poison (given the price).

Someone mentioned (i cannot verify) that ZF lenses were tested and developed together with Fuji DSLRs. It shows.

guys,

where to buy the 25mm f2.8 locally? how much? Is there a price list for Zeiss lens?

second hand prices is around $900 odd but not many for sale.

I checked out a few full res samples and it seems to be better than my nikon 24mm f2.8D, especially at the corners wide open. really tempted to upgrade

You can buy this lens from Alan Photo at Sim Lim Square (if you are comfortable dealing with them), Orient Photo (Sim Lim Square), TK Foto (Shaw Centre), Fotographix (Chinatown Point), TCW and Cathay Photo (Peninsula Plaza).

I traded-in my Nikon 85mm f1.4 AFD for a Carl Zeiss 85mm f1.4 ZF. There are pros and cons of course.

The pros are - better colors, sharpness and contrast, 'creamier' and more pleasant bokeh. Cons are - more difficult and slower to focus, weights more (only a bit), and the metal lens hood rattles a bit when you walk.
