They are already "disfigured" in the eyes of many people a long time ago.

I, too, cannot imagine the pain and suffering the poor and the eilderly are going through all this while, and still have to endure the daily jibe and sarcasm doled out by the ministers and the elite just because they need some help. Maybe its called karma. I am sure I will have mine too, but I reap what I sow.

    Politics aside.

When I was a merely six years old, I had boiling water splashed onto my arms, chest (coincidentally) and feet. I remember the pain I had gone through. I felt miserable. They took months to heal and several years later for the scars to disappear (not completely though).

When some poor sod from some poor sod country tried to bring in more than >15g of heroin into Singapore, he was caught and hanged. Can you imagine the fear and pain of getting hanged?

Apparently, Singapore isn't the only country that imposes death sentence on drug traffickers. Then again, would you want to see drug paddlers roaming the streets and nightclubs, 'poisoning' our children, brothers and sisters?

Our society is bad enough. We don't need such problems to make it worse.

    Anyway, enough said from me.

    Cheers!

We do not have to feel unjustified. As long as we know deep inside our hearts right from wrong, other people can voice their opinions at free will.

Being educated in the West, I respect and support others freedom of speech. Therefore, Kusum Kangguru has his or hers stance to share here which we listen and give our own verdict.

Just watched CNA. 15% burns to his body, face also affected.

This is serious, as burns victims are very susceptible to infections. I had a friend (together with his sister) who died as a result of horrific body burns. I'll never forget that sight, looking at him through glass window, with his face all charred.

Even though the assailant is said to be "disgruntled" and has been in and out of IMH, he clearly had the mental capacities to plan such an attack.

Err.... It is 15%, not 50%.

    I double-checked on CNA website.

Hope the chairman of the temple recovers well. Let's pray and start a donation for his medical fees.

SINGAPORE : Member of Parliament (MP) for Yio Chu Kang, Seng Han Thong, is in hospital with between 10 and 15 per cent burns after a man poured flammable liquid on him and set him on fire on Sunday.

Mr Seng was at a bursary and hong bao presentation ceremony at Yio Chu Kang Community Club when the attack happened.

The chairman of a nearby Chinese temple, Aw Swee Seng, also suffered burns.

Both men are now at the Singapore General Hospital.

Yio Chu Kang Community Club was filled with police and Civil Defence officers who were going about their investigations, but reporters were barred from entering the premises.

It is believed that a 70-year-old man approached the MP and Mr Aw from behind, poured the flammable liquid on them and set them on fire using a lighter.

A caller to the MediaCorp Hotline, Mr Zhang, said: "A man ran in, lit a bottle of kerosene and threw it at Mr Seng. Half of Mr Seng's hair was burnt...his back suffered burns as well. The man who threw the bottle tried to escape, but some people caught him and brought him to the CC."

    Police have arrested the assailant.

Temple officials said the man was disgruntled for not being selected to receive the hong bao containing S$200.

Residents in the area whom Channel NewsAsia spoke to said the man is a familiar face in the neighbourhood, but not much else is known about him.

The charity event was organised by the chairman of the nearby Chu Sheng Temple.

Mr Aw has been the temple chairman for more than 10 years. He is also a popular and prominent figure in the community, with his temple giving out bursaries and red packets annually for 28 years.

As for Mr Seng, this is not the first time he has been attacked.

He was assaulted by a disgruntled taxi driver in 2006.

The man, who had sought Mr Seng's help about a revoked taxi licence, was acquitted after he agreed to Mr Seng's undisclosed terms. - CNA/ms

but this MP kenna attacked 2 times already. How come so suay? Anyone knows him personally or has contact with him?

mm.... this may sound harsh or terribly unsympathetic but maybe some good can come out of this incident..... of course, I do not condone this but we have to look at the bright side of things... maybe there is a silver lining somewhere....

IT is something like, u see this car in your neighborhood car park who always park on the line and all over the place. Sometimes, u just wish that a lorry will come and scratched the car real bad to teach him a parking lesson.... not that I will actually scratch other people's car or anything, but there is the urge there sometimes. But being civilised people like most of us are, we don't do such things as it is clearly WRONG.

but setting someone on fire is a bit too extremist. I would settle for scratching the MP's car...

regarding IMH, I have a close friend who also go IMH for sleeping problems.... not crazy lah.
