[barracuda88] A Motivational Quote When Needed
It had been couple of weeks since I last touched my camera... Intended to keep it that way for a while, but alas, couldn't resist the temptation. Hence, picked it out from the closet today and started clicking again... Also wanted to test out the 50mm f1.8 mk II I got from my pal some days back.. Wanted to check it out so that if any problem can throw it back to him for a full refund plus claim from him interest loss, opportunity cost, time loss, etc..
 ... Anyway, also wanted to take some shots so that I could embed my favourite motivational quotes to spur inspirational thoughts and boost morale once a while... Maybe I can use this opportunity to start going into the business of selling motivational posters as well...  Anyway, here's my first APAD post for 2009... 10 Jan 2009 - Time  BTW, I also made an interesting discovery. Tried composing the picture by taking the clock on all the different 4 quadrants, and found that the 3 - 6 oclock looked best....

 Well, first of all, I must confess. I didn't take any of the photos above today. Cause of my current workload, don't think I can find time to shoot in the weekday... Even finding time for this forum is abit tough.... So hopefully I don't get kicked out of the forum for breaking the APAD "law". Anyway, I'll like to share some of my previous shots of the smiles of my two beautiful kids (no, not the one in the centre !!!), coupled with this beautiful short quote from Phyllis Diller. Remember whenever we feel down, just a smile (especially from your kids if you have any) will set everything straight ... Cheers!!!

 End of another work week... How much have we accomplished this week... And in how much of the accomplishment we had found true happiness and satisfaction... Went to attend the free workshop by Canon Digital this afternoon, on the way driving back to office, stopped by for a brief moment to take this shot... Don't really have the effect I am looking for, but nevertheless here it is.... Cheers and have a good weekend...

 Had another go with my new-old 50mm f1.8... Love the shallow DOF it gives... Couldn't do that with my kit lens previously... Anyway, like to share this quote today... One of my favourites to once in a while remind me to get back to (and love doing) the basic and fundamental things in life... We can achieve our greatest ambitions and goals, fulfill our much wanted dreams (like getting a brand new DSLR), but it doesn't stop us from being in need with the basic day to day stuff... Well, need to get back to my "laundry" for now... Cheers!

However, if you don't mind me making a few comments, I think there are some details which may not fit into this whole love theme. 1) The lighting is too harsh. I would prefer something warmer. There is a reason why lovers go for candle light dinner and not spotlight dinners. Warmer lighting sets a more relaxing mood ideal for love. Your ducks looks like they are under interrogation by CPIB. 2) Although the quote says something about gazing in the same direction, your angle makes the ducks look like they are attending divorce counseling. People in love don't sit so far apart you know? I would angle it a little so they look closer and take a bit more of the ducks faces to show that they are gazing in the same direction. I will also experiment with zooming in or out to see how it would look. The duck on the right looks a little pissed rather than in love 3) The ducks are little too sharp. Warmer lighting and softer images gives a dreamy feel, which is typically how people in love feel. People in love are intoxicated, they seldom see things in such clarity Otherwise they will see each other's blemishes and get turned off.4) The legs. The tags on the legs make them look like prisoners. It is a little difficult for heterosexual people to find a soul mate who is also your cell mate (as prisons mostly separate the genders into different premises). On the whole, the idea is a great one and it is good that you started shooting again. BTW, love the new-not-so-old 50mm f1.8, have more fun with it then my new-new 55-250.... Also was at the free Canon Workshop last week and the trainer was showing the advantages of having a flash... Maybe time to think about a new-not-so-old flash as well.....

24 Jan 2009 - Decision
 What a busy busy week.... Tried to clear up my work before the Chinese New Year... Well, I managed to find some time this Sat evening to play around with the camera abit.. Enjoyed shooting in the dark with a small litlle torch light... Probably will try more of it during this festive season.... In the meantime, got this motivational quote that I wanted to dedicate to a special friend (Unfortunately he doesn't surf ClubSnap, so I wonder why I am doing this???  ). Anyway all the best to him and all the shutter bugs here in CS, wishing all a very Happy and Prosperous Year of the Ox.... Gong Xi Fa Cai !!!

 Took some advice from my master and reworked abit on this photo. Added more red to the picture, soften the image, reduce the contrast. Can't do other things like changing the angle or removing the tags on the leg... Hopefully the adjustments can help to make the ducks look more like lovebirds rahter than jailbirds ....

 It had been a while since I last posted on APAD... As usual, work, work and more work. Anyway, decided to take a few minutes off my mind from work and post this picture I took some days back. Well, this iron gate will open no more. It's the gate to my grandfather's provision shop. Both my grandparents are no longer with us, and now it's time for this shop to go too (after many many many years of business since WWII).... Was reading the newspaper the other day and read about this guy which collapse after an argument. Was wondering if just one party had took a step back and be less harsh on words, maybe the tragedy will be avoided... Sometimes, just a gentle word will make a world of a difference on the outcome of things.... But then again, easier said then done ...Cheers! Edited and change to a different size. I think the 800X533 looks better. The earlier size I'm using seems abit small

 Learning how to use GIMP to do PP..... Not a quote, but took a verse from an old Hokkien Song (劝世歌). Those interested in how a 100 yr old hokkien rap sounds like can search in youtube... For our non Chinese CS friends here, it means "When a tiger dies, it leaves behind it's skin. When a person dies, he leaves behind his name"... Just for your thoughts... Cheers!!!

 It had been 2 months since I last touched the camera... Finally had an "excuse" to take it out from my closet yesterday. Was at the secondary school dragon boat competition that my son was participating and I took a few shots there. This picture suddenly strikes me on a quotation I came across sometime back. Not your typical teamwork quote, but it's a real practical one. You can't have a team with too many indian chiefs right? Cheers! Till the next time I find another excuse to use the cam again....
