Question A350 of 450D

Hi, i am getting a dSLR before CNY. i need help chosing the camera. i own a Dynax 5 SLR Camera with two Kit lens 28-70AF & 70-300AF since 2002 and was inform that a350 could use back the lens. but because of the chop effect i would need to get the kit lens too. a sony a350 body $899+-.

the canon 450D is $1064+- with kit lens 18-55. i like the function.

for sony
Relatively small optical viewfinder.
Modest 2.5fps continuous shooting.
Live View not 100% accurate.
High Noise above ISO800

for Canon
Live View not as fuss-free as Sony A350.
Screen fixed in position, unlike A350.
I find it too small and light.

More than the feature set, what you need to do is to hold the cameras in your hands and see which one feels better. In all honesty, in the end, ergonomics, and which camera feels the most comfortable and easiest to use, is the DSLR for you.

i went to sony for and tested the A350. it feel very solid and heavy. the 450D feel light and small the IS kit lens feel plastic.
if i'm getting Sony should i get a300 or the a350
i don't print photo more then 5r. most will be in the computer

Canon CMOS?
Sony CCD?
which is better.

both have advantages... Canon may have better high ISO performance, but the Sony colors and contrast tend to be very nice.

A300 or 350, given your needs, won't make too much of a difference. Depends on your budget.

do look into the complete system instead of just the body and kit lens.

Get a used a700 , much better than these two , or wait for the a700 replacement .

btw i tried the 450 liveview today , it is only useful for framing , a350 is way better in this aspect, and it has a tiltable screen.

This is hardly true , everything is available in minolta-sony range except tilt and shift lenses. And they are all image stabilised! On top of that you get to use auto focus zeiss lenses! For about 1k , if you get a aps-c body , you can buy the excellent Carl Zeiss 16-80 which covers most peoples need.

i used to be caught in the dilemma of the two body...in the end..go the C-way reason being...the accessories are cheaper (think: lens hood, flash unit, flash triggers) and 3rd parties stuff are more easily avail (think: 3rd parties flash diffuser for canon/nikon flashes, batt grips).

like what wdeva puts it...your are buying a system...not a camera body.

all Sony lenses come with lens hoods already ( shows how much you did your homework ), flash units , the price difference is not much, but they do use a propriety system which is a downer. Flash triggers? Minolta has an excellent wireless flash system already. They're pioneers in this field.

More importantly is to try both cameras, ergonomics and feel are also important once you have sorted the features and your requirements.

It's true... for Canon only L lens come bundled with a hood... else you have to buy it separately. However I think the TS would find it easier to get his Canon stuff ... from the BnS than Sony/Minolta system...

Personally I feel that the A700 have great ergonomics... but I really dislike the propriety system that they are using.... (eg: No third-party batteries)

A300 and A350 are quite similar to each other. If you want Sony, consider between A200, if you want to use the viewfinder, or A350, if you want to use liveview. If you can afford, I'd recommend the A700 thou, superior to both A200 & A350, or 450D for that matter, in every single way.

I am not quite a fan with the high(er) ISO shots on the A350 (it's too noisy). If given only a choice between A300 & A350 I would choose A300 (have a higher fps) instead.

Personally I feel that the MP race is "useless" if the IQ is compromise... Comments anyone?

i agree. A300 is a better choice. better fps and ISO control. 14mp is overkill in my opinion.. even the A700 has only 12mp.

There are third party batteries , but they are not info lithium , the sony batteries are excellent , and you pay for what you get.

since ur not printing large stuff, a A300 would be sufficient
also your 70-300 lens can be used with no problem. the other lens should also be usable, but might be a little tight as compared to the 18-70mm kit lens~

Getting a300 or a350 next week from MS color. price quoted by them is Vgd somemore Authorised Dealers. no risk of getting fake product.
