Hi guys,
What size of the step down ring I'd need for S5000 so that the lens cap would fit securely with the 55mm UV filter being attached? What is roughly the price, and will it block the lens (adapter + UV filter + step down ring)? |

huh? isn't your lens cap 55mm as well? should be able to fit fine onto a 55mm UV filter.

But the screw thread is very shallow (AP sold me this Vitacon brand). The lens cap would fall with a slight knock because it has a 'second layer' smaller diameter (52mm?) 'grabber' that protrudes out and press on the UV filter. So the 55mm 'grabber' cannot grab deep enough into the screw thread.
Hope you understand what I'm trying to say. |

oh, i see... seems to be like the 2nd layer 52mm "grabber" is coming in contact with the UV filter, which is why the 1st layer 55mm "grabber" can't grab properly? heh...
well, you just have to measure the smaller "grabber" diameter, and get the appropriate step down ring. but not too sure about potential vignetting at full wide though. step down rings are rather cheap, so not much harm trying i guess... |

why not just get a normal lens cap? costs less than a step-down ring.

Ya hoh. And if I lost the cap also no big deal. So I'll just need a simple 55mm cap right? How much that will cost?
But don't know where's the nearest place around Jurong I can get one? Jurong Point got this Sxxx Brothers, they (email forwarding) said 'chop' people one. Don't know real or not. |

And anyone knows the purpose of Fuji design this type of lens cap?

The inner ring is to latch on to the extending lens which extends when you turn the camera on. This will allow the camera to be turned on without removing the lenscap. This is a bad practice, but Fuji saved us from mechanical failures with this design.
Then there are those who keeps the extension tube on all the time, so the outer ring will latch. Fuji obviously does not expect the casual photographer to attach a permanent UV-0 or Skylight to 'protect' the lens. Moreover, the S5000, S7000, S602, S4900, etc are all high-end consumer cameras, not exactly 'pro'. |

Most photo studios around here do not carry too many accessories. AP said they're selling at $3-4 but have to go down all the way just for that few dollars item. Should have checked on the spot that day. Sigh. These two days got outings somemore. ![]() |

Eh? Just checked and found that the lens cap of S5000 is not latching onto the lens itself but the camera body.
Maybe Fuji doesn't consider S5000 a high end consumer camera?? ![]() |

I am not to sure, but on the S602 that I use, the original cap latches to the extending portion of the lens.
