The price is in the thereabouts of S$1350-$1400 when I check with the local distributor about 3 weeks ago.

If the Transcend 45x is around $1.5k, I'll rather get the Lexar 40x, which cost about 2/3 the price, and comes with the Lexar Rescue Software. Just my thoughts...

One uses harddisk-like technology, the other uses memory cells/chip to store data. |

Currently there's no agent for the Lexar CF cards, so gotta shipped from US, the price is approximately S$1k++, so about 2/3 the price of the Transcend. |

It's a spinning diskdrive inside a microdrive, and like all HDD, cannot withstand severe jolts. Due to the fact that the disk must be kept spinning at I-dont-know how many RPM, there is a higher power-consumption for microdrive. I don't know how compact flash records data, but I think there is mostly silicon inside, which is somehow made non-volatile, so you don't need power to remember your 1's and 0's. But at any rate, it has advantages over the microdrive of lower power consumption and more hardy. That's the reason for the difference's in the price. I suppose compact flash should require more technology to manufacture. Besides the HDD industry is well-established and to build a small drive, they will be using already available technology. |
