Default Round face because of your lens?

Would like to hear from the experts here ....

is there such a thing as "your lens make my face so round .... eeeezz not nice " ?

Using 85mm and 135mm for portraits.

Use UWA, the face will become oval.

    lol got such a thing?
after taking portraits for schools... I've come to identify it as not the lens to blame, but their self denial.

It should not matter with 85mm and 135mm... If you used a 15mm wide-angle I could understand, due to perspective distortion. Im guessing your subject doesn't realize what they really look like.

only if you go too close

distortion is not impossible even with telephoto

    haha .... that's true.

I have a few "sleepless" night thinking about this .... and I come to realize that what I want my images to look like is totally different from what the models wanted.

I like close up, i like hair neatly tied up with lots of face and shape to be seen, i like to see features, etc...

The "models" usually prefer "shoot far far away hor", full length, etc...

Try it yourself .... i show the models 5 closeups, 5 mid, and 5 wide and ask them to choose 5 images they like me to print .... haha .... usually the 5 from mid to wide, and esp with scenery background

They prefer the more scenic type shots... not the closeup ones...

That is the purpose of using wide angles.

cos the lens circumference is round mah so come out round..must use square lens..or ask them cut out a rectangle cardboard with a square hole in the centre and look through it.

anyway i tink it depends on the angle facing the lens..if face is round, tele straight on also round. its a fact!

The face shape is most affected by the shooting angle/ perspective.
Try different angles of the same model and you will see. different degree of roundness of face.
Of couse, also depends on the face itself.
The best photographer is one who is inspired by the innate nature of his subjects.
