I am also using the same hood... for my Canon 50mm f1.8 II.... it is from Hoya...

If you are using the Canon Zoom Lens EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II it is 58mm...

yes there is a hood.
but u may not need it as the design is such that the lens is quite deep within the body, so the lens body acts like a hood.

search ebay for those petal hoods, around 7 SGD free shipping. very cool looking too. =)
Those asking about kit lens hood, get a 3rd party one will do. Somehow all my lenses have hoods, even though the kit lens hood is totally useless... it just doesn't feel right without it.

i think it was a closing sale.
can't remember which shop, just that it was in a shopping centre very near chinatown mrt. sorry! should've taken down the name to share with everyone. didn't think of it then.

All the 50mm hoods are of the cylindrical shorter type.
