Thread: Full View of CBD (HDR)

  1. #1

Default Full View of CBD (HDR)

This is one of recent experiences with HDR. I would like comments on the composition, the HDR effect, the colour and lighting. If possible suggestions would be good too. I started HDR photography not long ago, and liked the results of it, so I would like to hear suggestions on how to improve my HDR, either the capturing part, the exposure part or the photoshop part.

    EXIF :

    SONY Alpha A300
    18-70mm Kit Lens
    Aperture : F/10
    Shutter : 1/320 sec
    ISO : 100

1- CBD is behind you. You're facing the Marina / Suntec area.
2- This is taken from the Anderson Bridge, yes? There's not much to say abt the composition, perhaps a 16:9 crop would be better.
3- Interesting sky / clouds, but there had been better days, with fluffy clouds and more blue.
4- your watermark / signature's been kinda too big la. half the size, with Arial / Verdana / century gothic fonts will just do, at least for me.
Already abused my D40 and D80 for my flickr

i feel that there is not enough colors in this pic to make it a spectacular pic,
looks like a normal snapshot (except for the clouds)...
but of cos this is only my noob comments.
    ;) L-plate Photog: I come, I see, I shoot

    1. Oh ok, I keep mixing them both up... :S
    2. Thanks for the idea, will try that when I take similar shots
    3. Hope to get better skies in future :P
    4. Think this is really individual's perspective

Yes, but since this is the critique corner, it's fair to say that your watermark is so big and distracting that it competes with the skyline as the main subject of the photo.

i like the sky, but seem to suit a title on something like a disaster is gonna strike on the city.

agree that the sig is kinda distracting, maybe you can frame the photo, and keep it out of the photo.

Your watermark really is too big, it draws attention away from the photograph.

anyway why do you need such a big watermark for?

It is automated once I uploaded it online, the watermark will be there. Anyway i've resized the watermark for future photos already, so next time the watermark on my future photos is smaller.

please refrain from posting your own photos, this is the critique corner.

composition is so-so, clouds are nice

colors are not. slightly too overpushed for me, there is way too much patchy lighting in the water, which makes this looks like a digital painting. fine if you prefer that sort of thing though, but not for me.

    maybe convert this to bnw.

the picture also looks soft. at this size, that shouldn't be the case.

Softness is something I have to live with now, because Sony's kit lens are notorious of being soft..

Will plan to change lens to replace the kit lens soon.

I wholeheartedly disagree. They don't have that notoriety at all. In fact, they're some of the better kit lenses out there.

I think you forgot an important step: Always sharpen after you reduce the image size.

Oh is it? I heard alot about the kit lens from Sony. Anywayz thanks for assuring me the Kit lens is good

Its not I forgot that step, but I always thought after I reduce the image size it would be sharper than it is when it is in 100%

Thats why I never really sharpen it again after resizing because I thought it would automatically look sharper.

No, downsizing it can make blurred objects look a bit sharper, but you lose fine detail. Best to run a sharpen after resize, rather than before.

i tink its nicely taken! as said by a bro here, i felt that the clouds took up too much space. another thing that struck me when I first look at the photo was "why is esplanade right smack in the middle?" keeping to the rule of thirds maybe TS can try framing slightly to your right, so that the esplanade shifts to the left along the intersection of the 2 one-thirds line and at the same time, capturing the singapore flyer (even though its not turning now. =p )

i like the colours and the clouds effect though. they give me an omnious feeling. ha =)

Perhaps a title like this will goes...a gloomer year ahead for 2009.
