Hi
after all the 300D hoopla, i thought it's time for everybody to cool down and see some pictures ![]() Under the Crescent Moon ![]() The Crescent Moon has traditionally been a symbol of the Islamic faith, but I've recently came across literature that states not every muslim accepted it as an official symbol. Traditionally there has not been a symbol of Islam, and nobody worships the crescent moon, just like Christians do not worship the cross. Here's an interesting read on the Crescent Moon for anyone who's interested in the topic..... Anyway I've decided to build around the symbolic (whether official or not) and distinctive half moon and star for this series of shoots on Islam...... There is speculation that the five points on the star represent the 5 pillars of Islam, but this is pure conjecture. Sultan Mosque ![]() The Crescent Moon sits on top of Sultan Mosque, Singapore's oldest place of worship for the Muslim community. Steps of Faith ![]() Big yellow crescent moons can be found all around the interior of the mosque. Preparing for prayers ![]() An attendant prepares the speakers' podium for Friday worship. Friday Worship ![]() Muslims converge under the crescent moon for prayers on a Friday afternoon. More to come...... |

Sometimes I wonder if you are a muslim, obviously you are not. You seem to blend in very well with them
I like pic 3 and especially pic 5 with the human subjects. Pic 3 would have been a very powerful shot if human interest, preferably one with a tudong, is included somewhere in the top-right corner. What do you think? ![]() |

Hahaha....... yeah I was thinking of that too....... most places of worship (bar Chinese temples) do not allow photography, much less taking a photo of an iman preparing for Friday prayers on the pulpit?! If it's clandetinely taken u might want to take down these shots for the sake of our Muslim friends. |
