I guess it is a chinese believe that everything must be even for a good event like wedding and birthday; i.e. 2, 4, 6, 8 and etc. are ok but 3, 5, 7 and etc are no no.
If customer or people protest, I normally respect their wishes or get someone in.
No point shooting, waste shutter count, customer do not like the photo and do not pay.
As for baby they are considered half. So 2.5 is okay.

Only older folks will balk when taking their photo because of this nonsense superstition. Most of the time people don't care. I couldn't care at all.

quite true actually, like maybe the first person did something with the number 3 and something bad happened, therefore they believe such things, like how i recently realise that when everyone stone or is at rest, their mouth will have different shapes, some looks sad, some looks like they're giving a little smile while some are jus like 0_0

so i can start a wife's tale that, the way your mouth is determines your life, like how many other superstition starts of,i just shoot any number of pictures

I think just depend on situation...

If shooting in a Chinese customary/festive event, take note of this no-no. Otherwise, ignore and shoot as you like!

yah man, i dont get it all. i try to avoid it when there are elderly people around, especially during wedding shoots. damn annoying and time-wasting (need to search for the 4th person bla bla)

Cannot stand in middle, then where do those gold medalists in olympics stand?

Quite true loh. That is why if we watch Hong Kong movie, about brotherhood, normally is 3 also. And most of the movies have bad ending, except the three stooges. Maybe 3 is a number of feud!
