well that depends on what their initial objectives were. I'd say no one is a winner for now. Hamas is scoring a major PR victory though, now that oher nations are criticising Isreal for their actions.
It is such a quiet thing to fall,
But far more terrible is to admit it

i don't understand, people are dying, and hence, we shouldn't talk about it at all?

That doesn't make any sense. The TS isn't making fun of the situation, he's simply asking for opinions and trying to start a discussion.

I believe what HP and P1010 are refering to the 2nd sentence.

Who win? It is not just a win-loss scenario we are looking at. It's people lives and in most case civilian.

Go google for Occupation 101. Quite a good documentary on the conflict. Might be bias to some.

Some people feel that things can be classified into Black or White, Win or Lose, Good or Evil.

Hence his sentence, "Who is the winner?"

It's not that clearcut, but still, it is a valid question. For Hamas, "winning" would probably mean having inflicted significant losses of Isreali life, military or otherwise, striking fear into the hearts of Isrealis, and having the world condemn Isreal for it's strikes into the Gaza Strip. Note that many reports of the strikes refer to them as "incursions", which has rather negative connotations. For Isreal, i'd say "winning" for them means stopping the rocket attacks on their citizens from Hamas held territory. Well, at least that's what their leaders claim their objective to be.

Personally, I feel the losers will always be the general population living in the conflict zone, and the young men who give their lives for the egos, ambitions and arguements of men too old to wield weapons of their own.

Then they should stop the rocket attacks. A few rockets here and there is not going to get back the land they lost.

Unlike the Americans, the Israelis are a tough people, and they have got nowhere else to go back to, so they will stay no matter how many rockets are fired at them.

And once the no of rockets exceeds the Israeli government's tolerance, airstrikes and military assaults will be the response, with great loss of civilian life on the Arab side.

They have to decide if that's what they want. Because that's the inevitable result of firing rockets. They are not going to get back their land by firing rockets. All they will get are dead civilians.

    That's basic fact 101.

the thing is that the western media NEVER EVER shows the hamas or muslim side of things. if you notice the propaganda seems to make it feel like jewish lives are more important than the lives of the people living in gaza ...
Opinions are like A-holes. Everyone's got one.

Don't think so. Back in 1948, the British were in control of Palestine. And according to history:

"On the 29th November, 1947, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution calling for the establishment of a Jewish State in Eretz-Israel; the General Assembly required the inhabitants of Eretz-Israel to take such steps as were necessary on their part for the implementation of that resolution. This recognition by the United Nations of the right of the Jewish people to establish their State is irrevocable.

"On May 14, 1948, on the day in which the British Mandate over a Palestine expired, the Jewish People's Council gathered at the Tel Aviv Museum, and approved the following proclamation, declaring the establishment of the State of Israel. The new state was recognized that night by the United States and three days later by the USSR."

    and

"In May 1948, Israel became an independent state after Israel was recognised by the United Nations as a country in its own right within the Middle East."
